Any tips for first time test takers?

Any tips? I know ones like bring a jacket incase its cold, bring a watch and don't sit next to someone attractive or it tends to cause a distraction..

Is there anything I'm missing?

If you're used to using mechanical pencils, they don't let you... so make sure you're comfortable with a regular one before you go.

Be aware of time. I messed up in the math section. You know how the first problems are absurdly easy? Well, I kept checking and checking x=2 when 3x=6.
I got all of my answers right, except for 3 I didn't have enough time to solve.

And concentrate. I mean, CONCENTRATE.

Go in with confidence.

Do some practice problems in the morning because you might be all psyched up about it having these questions attacking you(even easy ones). Unless it's math, then I'll do fine when I first turn that page. But if it's a sentence completion, it's hard to focus. You want to be in rhythm. Don't let it control you, you want to control it!

rb is right about mechanical pencils, but since I write much better/clearer with mech pencils, I used it for the SAT - the proctor only asked if it was a pen and then sat back down. Most proctors probably wouldn't kick you out if you used a mechanical pencil, that is as long as you didnt cheat with it (ie. put answers in the transparent lead compartment or something).

With seating, I always try to sit in a corner if I can, and if they arrange the seating for you, I get lucky and sit in a corner anyway lol. More space = more comfortable.

Get rid of the ghosts haunting you. By that I mean all the worries and stress that's going on and making you mess up. Just focus on the questions. Really, all the SAT is is a test that tests basic reading, math, and writing skills. It's NOT HARMFUL! If your testing center is at a college, pretend that your proctor is giving you his/her final exam and you're surrounded by a bunch of idiots. And you know it's not a very difficult test and you are going to astound your proctor/teacher. When you think about it, the SAT is a test of basic math, reading, and writing, all skills that you should have by the time you go to college. That's all! So don't make the SAT seem like "Oh Nooooo! The giant SAT monster is going to get me!!!!" like everyone, and I mean EVERYONE makes it seem. So just go in there, tiger, and get ready to RUUUMMMMBBBLLLLLLLEEEEE!

Other tips:

Don't worry about how everyone else is doing. Just focus on your test. I remember that I was a little late when I started my essay because I had to use the restroom and everyone was scribbling stuff. I was still thinking about the prompt, generating a response, preparing an outline, preparing everything I wanted to say. And so I started way after everyone else, and I got an 11. So just do your own thing. Don't worry about everyone else. FOCUS.

Remember, this test is not going to kill you. Repeat after me: The SAT tests basic skills.

Bring Water And A Snack For Breaks!!!!

^^ you can't capitalize everything on cc.

lol..don't sit near someone who's attractive.

What if you can assigned to a seat that's near the heater? I remember I couldn't concentrate at all during the PSATs.
