Im just wondering.. is there any universities in france that teach in english? im planning to major in biology with french as minor. and i think it would be a great idea to maybe go take my 3/4yrs in france instead. i can learn easily because france itself is speaking french.. and i dont speak french yet, i know some of it but i dont know how to pronounce it. any idea would be great, im open to anything. i just wanna know if its possible for me to do that, and if so, what university is available? i cant find any university besides American university of paris, which im not really interested in because it looks like its one of the most expensive school in france.

I hope this doesn’t sound rude as I don’t have too much info on actual universities, but I can tell you a little about my experiences and offer a bit of advice based on this.

Where do you plan to study in France?? Most people first think–Paris… but remember, Paris is a very expensive city to live in, also the city is very international. You say that “…i can learn easily because france itself is speaking french.” This is actually false for Paris, and some other cities. A lot of people speak English very well in Paris and will not hesitate to just speak to you in English the second they hear your accent. And this is not a stereotype, believe me, I know people who have gone to Paris and been very surprised to have not learned much french/been rudely told off for attempting to speak French. Once you’ve got a grasp on the language though, it can be a very pleasant city.

Since you don’t know French yet, I would say it would probably be best to apply to a U.S. university with a good study abroad program. I know that Wash U. for example has a premed program that is in France, and I’m pretty sure the courses are in mainly in english, but you do have a few language classes.

Overall, I think it’s best to study biology/french at a U.S. school and then go abroad your Sophomore/Junior year. This way, you can begin classes in French at a U.S. school and have some command of the language before you dive in. In my opinion, you’d actually learn more French this way and it would also be more cost-effective. Europe is not a cheap place to live for 3/4 years, and I know that I would be a little bit scared going abroad when I didnt at least know some of the language.

If you are SURE in your heart that this is the way it must be to go to France immediately, I urge you to take as many French classes as possible before you leave… this way you will have the basics no matter what. Sorry I could not offer you better information on actual universities, but I think another poster will have better answers. I think you could definitely find a lot of universities offering FLE, but probably very few offering Biology classes in English (besides an American University abroad)

thank u zincoxide, i appreciate ur opinion. dont worry, it doesnt sound rude at all. and ur opinion is very helpful.
