Of course, much of the increase could simply be due to RD applicants deciding to apply early. But the total number of applicants has still certainly increased. They cannot maintain the same class size without reducing admission rates.

It all comes down to their prediction of what their yield will be. I’d assume that it’d be <20% if Nondorf is really going to admit less students, but boost up financial aid packages for those accepted like he did at RPI (which, they might predict (a very valid prediction as well), will boost their yield). We’ll see what happens though.

^^ Where have you been? It’s been well known for about a week and half that Chicago’s EA pool increased by 54%. And combining that with them accepting approximately the same amount of EA applicants will lead to an EA admit rate a lot closer to 20%.

I am not American…I am an international applicant!! GEE how isolated I have been! I think I am on the verge of crying after reading “this isn’t great” thread~I am doomed…if the number of domestic applicants increase sooo much, surely there will be much much more international applicants than before I am doomed…I am doomed…

Dawncoming, don’t worry! They are not going to just admit all the direct Ivy-league or prestige seekers. It’s what you put into your app that matters!

And, a random note, since I don’t want to spam the NEW OFFICIAL decisions thread - guys, please don’t post on it anymore.

Otherwise we’ll have to have like a 100% Legitimate Official (This is for Real) Decisions thread by the time they’re posted or the '15ers will get confused.

I agree with zakuropanda. And @ dawncoming I wasn’t trying to hurt anyone by saying “cruel” things, I was just commenting on the fact that lots of people applied so they might have to accept a bit less! I’m sorry if it hurt your feelings or something…
This is going to be a very interesting process. They’re really going to have to admit either very few people and work for the yield.
Or admit lots of people and be prepared for their yield to fall as lots of students will be applying to HYPSM as well.
Good luck everyone!

Admissions people were funny. Last year I phoned them and they said that they had no idea when the admissions decisions would be released. And guess what, they were released two hours later (at 2:00pm PST, 4:00pm Chicago time).

Mhm. I would actually be surprised if it was today…since it seems that the decision came out later last year, but there were so many fewer applicants that year too.

Thanks! Where on my account will it appear because unlike many other college accounts, there is no one folder or link dedicated to the acceptance decision?
