Anybody get in with "Acted upon" status?

okay well
i've been telling myself all month that there is no reason for me to be scared
yeah...its march 29th
i have a pretty good reason to be scared

Same, I'm worried too. Nervous.

NM Commended USC First choice

Double legacy

And other stuff is okay too. Although GPA's lower than average. Worried.

NM Commended USC First choice

where did ppl say USC was there first choice?!?!

3.9/4.6 GPA and 2190 SAT. also national merit.
i already got into northwestern and claremont mckenna.
status changed today to "acted" and still nothing from usc (az). i think i'm rejected, which surprises me only because i felt really strong about the work i put into my application.

how in the world could they reject you?
This is why this thing is so weird!

dont say that jayell
your stats are excellent
i really think you're in
or atleast deserve it A LOT

i think we can decide that everybody who's in "acted upon" status cant be rejected because some of these stats are super high. do u agree?

I would have to, yes

thank you. i still feel like if usc was going to accept me, they would have done it already (like they did for many, many others on this board). but who knows. maybe i applied to a too-popular major (int'l relations). maybe they think i just don't click with usc. maybe they limited their national merit intake because of the auto-half tuition. all i know is it's not in my hands anymore.

good luck to everyone. here's to hoping for good news on monday.

For those that keep asking about the "NM commended thing" --- all NM commended and higher students are given the choice of designating two schools as their top choices. CollegeBoard then sends the schools notice of the student's choice. This may have some impact on decisions, particularly for schools without ED programs such as USC.

Oh don't worry guys, the mail carriers were probably too lazy to carry all those thick fat envelopes to houses Saturday. Just hang tight until moday...i wouldent look at the status pages anymore, its over all the decisions have been made, just wait for that letter. It will come sooner than you think.

2330 could be Senluck's SAT2 scores.

Wait that NM thing actually matters??? DAMN! I put down UNC and UVA randomly as schools I wanted to notify, and I don't even care about them. I was THIS CLOSE to putting down USC but I didn't know much about it so I didn't.

Argh.

acarey617-don't worry. it looks like it didn't matter. I actually think it is a flag to schools you are interested in that you may progress to semi-finalist. It seems like there aren't any great benefits to being commended (scholarships, etc.) except the label.

Someone asked if my son's 4.0 was weighted and it is not. He attends a very small private school that USC has probably never heard of so maybe that's why they didn't pay more attention to him.

I wouldn't put too much thought into the Commended Students thing. Do you have any idea how many of those colleges get? And they all know that minds change from beginning-of-Junior to end-of-Senior years. One of the schools I put down I was deferred from ED and the other I didn't even end up applying to.

I disagree with both statements, to an extent. Designating a school as a top choice will not get you in if you are not at least a borderline case. However, it can make a difference for those on the edge, particularly for schools without ED who pay close attention to their yield, and for merit money decisions. Yes, a lot of things change between junior and senior years, but most people take SATs not too long after the PSAT (D's highest scores were from Jan 2007), so I don't buy that argument either.

Acted on 3/29
3.9 uw/1960 SAT/ Rank 28/780

Acted on 3/29
3.6 UW (Upward trend since ninth grade, 3.1 increasing from 9th until senior year 3.9), 3.9 W
29 ACT~1980-2000 SAT/750 Math II/640 Bio-M (Self-taught)
Legacy/Has donated lots of $$$

How much is lots of $$$? If you don't feel comfortable disclosing that info that's cool, but I'm just wondering, because it seems that it takes a sizeable donation to really help an applicant's chances.

I'll PM you.
