Congrats NDIRISH!

Congrats, NDIrish101! Nothing in Texas yet....

My friend just got in! The only werid thing is, she was accepted for January 2007, due to the large amount of applicants this year. HOW ODD IS THAT?! They split the freshman class into two groups. So werid...

ah, now im nervous, did they send all the letters togehter?

what do u mean she was accepted into Jan 2007?

for the last few years, brandeis has had a midyear class that enters as of the spring semester (ie january). its a much smaller group than the group that starts in the fall.

i assume that is what is being referred to if someone is admitted for january 2007.

I know that some colleges do offer students delayed admission to start spring semester. The applicant pool to Brandeis is highly competitive and I'm sure that most of the students accepted in this manner will hold acceptances to other highly competitive colleges. How many actually take Brandeis up on their offer to begin college later than their peers? Is this actually a "kind" way to waitlist students?

I know a few midyears. They usually devote an entire freshman dorm to the midyear class. Ignoring commuters, there are 9 freshman buildings. So clearly a substantial portion take 'Deis up on the offer.

i think in the last couple of years, there have been about 50 midyears. brandeis tries to house them together and runs an orientation program specifically for them.

it is not a "waitlist" - it is an offer of admission, just delayed a semester. i assume some kids accepted as midyears choose to go elsewhere so they can start in the fall, but enough do end up accepting that there is a real midyear program. certainly for anyone accepted midyear, this adds a factor to consider in deciding whether or not to go there - but it can have positive aspects to it to - opportunity to do things that semester.

if you go to the brandeis site and do a search for "midyear" you will find disucssion forums for midyears as well as info pages about it.

Middlebury also has a program like that, but students are admitted in February. I know if this is the case, Middlebury will help you find something to do until then, like getting an internship. I wonder if Brandeis does the same?

It's good to hear that this is a viable option for some students and that a sizeable number take Brandeis up on their offer. I assume that the dorm space opens up mid year due to juniors studying abroad?

i don't know if its true every year, but i think they put the midyears in a dorm that has just been rennovated, so they are able to put them all together. but in general, i think the absence of the study abroad kids makes it easier to take in a group midyear.

i'm sure that anyone who gets admitted midyear gets all the info they need to help them decide if this option will work for them -- and in general brandeis tries very hard to answer admitted students' questions - they have message boards where they can ask questions, they have "chats" for accepted applicants with current students, they are always open to questions -- so accepted students have a chance to get not only "official" answers, but answers from current students.

Congratulations, jmw and NDIrish!
You seem to have gotten a better envelope than the ED kids!

i got accepted today, but it didnt say anything anywehre about merit aid. does that mean i didnt get anything?

ra2000a-
First off, congrats on getting accepted! Second, this is just speculation, but here's my guess: since they haven't gone through all the RD applicants yet and the BR application is nonbinding, you probably won't hear about merit aid until the RD kids do.

Or I could be totally wrong - but it seems like the financial aid office would send you something to let you know what's going on.

I called them, and since i didnt fill out a CSS form, i wasnt considered for merit aid. however, if I do fill out one, they will reconsider me for merit aid.

I'm in Chapel Hill, NC and no news today!!! How did it get to Texas before me? :(
