hey guys i listen to the starting line, operation ivy, GREEN DAY, taking back sunday, something corporate etc.
also indie rock such as "The Honorary Title". whoever says this band is bad has NO musical tastes. I have never seen anybody trash this band. Also a huge fan of snow patrol, reindeer section.

jinp6301-- I'll admit that I had a minor fear that you might actually listen to some old recordings of true punk but after listing those bands, that fear is quenched and now I know for a fact you don't listen to punk. I'm not going to trash your bands or badmouth them in any way (to each their own, right?) but let me just say right now that they are NOT punk.

Billie Joe, ultimate source of wisdom and zen says:

"Punk rock's dead and I f***ing killed it"

"He asked me 'what's punk?' I said it's a lifestyle not a look, he looked confused, so I kicked over a garbage can and said 'that's punk'. Then he kicked over a garbage can and said 'that's punk?' and i said 'no that's trendy'"

Punk was a movement against mods and preached anarchy and violence in late 1970s UK. If you ask a serious music buff, the only true PUNK is like the Sex Pistols, The Clash, and maybe Ramones. (couple other minor bands also) They would say stuff like Blink, GreenDay, Sum41 etc. is punk-influenced or pop-punk. I am not a music buff however and agree with you guys I could care less and just like the sound anyways.

Punk wasn't about anarchy/violence (sure, some of the followers of the movement somehow manifested and interpretted it as such). It was more about doing what you wanted to do when you wanted to do it.

Hehe, music afficiandos ammuse me. Sometimes I think that the basis for good music for some people (not nocessarily anyone here) is music that less than 10 people have ever heard. Because it seems that whenever a band becomes popular or known by a decent number of people, they are immediately labled "sell-outs" by the so-called afficanados. They claim, "oh they went pop," or "they lost their edge," although this has been true for some bands.

That's why my favorite band is Reel Big Fish, because they realize that people hate them for becoming popular, and they've built a following out of it.

Plus ska just flat-out rocks.

Other good alternative/punk-sounding bands:

Flogging Molly
WEEZER (the Blue Album and Pinkerton flat out pwnz j00)
Modest Mouse
Oasis
Scissor Sisters (good 70's-style glam rock)

And other just rockin bands:

Gorillaz
Korn (as long as they don't try to rap, they're good for some anger release).
Jay-Z (I like rap for ironic purposes, because it's just fun to go around 'dustin' ya shoulda' off. Also Threat from the black album is very humorous).
Daft Punk
Barenaked Ladies
...and really many more
