Does anyone know just how substance free those sub free dorms are?

What does sub free even mean. Like no drugs and alcohol? Arent those illegal for freshman anyways? Even though there sub free I would guess, but dont know, that its not very sub free.

Hey, you guys can check online if there are any vacancies land can easily switch if there are. I was able to switch to a single in Friley

Thanks, mm99.

Another FYI.
Be sure to check your meal plan. You get assigned the 21 meals/week premium plan by default. You have until Aug 28, 2009 to make changes for fall semester.

Has anyone taken those online tests? i just took the practice ones today and I dont know if the chemistry practice was a joke or what but I am going to take the real ones tomorrow. I dont think either are going to be that bad does anyone got tips on stuff to look over?

I took all the placement test. I passed out of algebra and trig and could be placed into chem 201. For the chem test, there were 2 questions about specific heat and 2 significant figures.

Got back from Orientation today. If anyone has any questions, just ask.

Hows the schedule? What classes are you taking? We’re going 6/11-12.

The schedule for orientation or my classes? I’m taking trig, bio, english 250H, food science 101, honors seminar, Hixson seminar for a scholarship I won, library. I think that’s it.

If you want to explore schedules, you can play with this website.

yea, I was just curious about the schedule for classes. Son wants all afternoon classes because he’s not a morning person. I’m not sure if this is possible? Anyway, it should give the adviser a nice chuckle.

Maybe if he doesn’t need to take math, he might not have a class until 10. Those look like all the earliest classes.

Ok, we had orientation this past weekend. It was nice to see the campus again, looks much different now compared to February. It was very beautiful. Loved lake lavern and the swans.

Anyway, we met with the adviser and son did very well on placement tests. He will start with Calc1 and Chemistry for engrg students (can’t remember the course number). He could have started with Calc2 with his calc AP credit, but that’s a tough class, and adjusting to college life we just didn’t want to risk it. He got a by on 1st semester English requirement. Son was happy about that.

Also, the adviser recommended the EE learning community. We like the idea of a group of students taking common classes together and can network, form study groups and such. Son’s classes start at 9am and that was OK wth him.

The wife and I are very happy with ISU and the attention they are giving him. We think son may a good choice.

Ok well I have a question about those placement tests, I was distracted and a little hungover and got a 15 on the algebra one but then the next day i got a 15 on the trig one. It says you need a 16 on the algebra one but do you think they will mind if I was one question off and did well on the trig one? Will they still allow me to take Calc? And that chemistry exam I didnt even know what I was doing I got less than a 50% i think so I dont know what that will do to me

I think they consider you haven’t had algebra in 3 or 4 years, and you passed the trig part. If you had calc in HS I would take the placement test to show readiness.
If you have good gpa and class rank that’s a plus too.
Basically it comes down to if you can demonstrate you are ready for calc. Not sure about chemistry.

FYI. Son’s roommate didn’t do well on alg and trig placement tests, so he and has to take alg.

Ok well I’m not going to let one question screw me out of getting into calc. I am ready for it

I tjink they will want you to take Chem prep if you did not get enough correct to put you into CHEM163. Have you had Chamistry in High School?

Nah i went to orientation and got into calc and chem 167 so its all good. But did anyone else think that orientation was great, it really helped me a lot and i made a couple of friends

It was alright, I guess. Except those stupid bags! My CyAid was apologizing for them. I guess I meet people but I don’t remember them…maybe I will remember tham when I see them next fall.

S had a chance to meet up with his roommate and another friend he met from a previous visit. They seemed to have a nice time. I can almost navigate the campus without a map now.

Yeah, I probably would feel like I got more out of the experience if I didn’t already know my way around campus.
