Me too Huanlai, that's great news and congratulations.

Thanks guys :)
I was actually originally deferred, but when I called the admissions office to see what i can do to increase my chances, I found out that my guidance counselor messed up one of my senior year grades and put in a D instead of a B and after WPI confirmed with my school, they called me back in an hour or two and told me they changed their decision and I was accepted unofficially over the phone and my acceptance package was coming in a few days :)

Wow, you must have been a wreck! But I guess mistakes do happen......grrrr... Glad everything worked out.

Wow, it's such a good thing you called them. Congratulations!

Haaha thanks, I know! What luck :)

And yes, I was a wreck :-P, I barely worked up the courage to call them to see why I didn't get accepted.

So you called and asked why you were deferred and they said, "Well, we weren't happy to see that D," and you said, "What D?"

Were they that upfront about it? That seems pretty good. From other forums it sounds like other schools just mutter something about fit or GPA rather than getting into specifics.

This shows that one bad grade can spell a difference between ADMIT and DEFER/DENY. Scary!

Really scary because he didn't even HAVE the D. He had a B! He would never have known that the D had been entered by mistake if he hadn't called and asked.

Well they were pretty specific mainly because I asked them for specifics on why I was deferred and how I can increase my chances for regular decision, and when they pulled up my file they told me that the D was "the biggest flag in an otherwise strong application" and they deferred me to see if I can make an improvement. From what I heard, C's were bad, but at least acceptable in rare numbers, but a single D, in any subject, can disqualify a student from acceptance, unless they are able to show dramatic improvement upon it.

congrats everyone!!! I just came home from a science olympiad meet where I won a silver medal in Designer Genes. Then, I found out that I got accepted to WPI!!!

Wow, congratulations LousantAce, what a great day, silver medal and then WPI acceptance! :)
