Hello.
Are there any transfers who got accepted into UCLA or UCB even though they were missing few pre reqs (but have high GPA)? Especially those non-impacted majors like Cog Sci?

Thats exactly what I’m worried about. I believe I’ve looked through a Cal “decisions only-type” thread and found a few here and there that were :/

Maybe there’s hope for us?

I have a kinda easier question
Are there transfers who got accepted into Cal/UCLA with their important prreregs finishing in spring? especially in those hot majors like econ?

I do my Calc 2 in this semester and I am not a 4.0. it makes me nervous. :(

@ThePavin I really hope so… i don’t want to spend ANOTHER year blehhhh

@LfcErnesTT haha easier question huh?
well i read many posts and from uc websites that as long as u complete ur pre reqs by Spring (prior to transfer) then u would be okay. actually there seems to be a lot of ppl who finish their pre reqs in spring…

hopefully the link below can help u a little (it actually helped me a lot by schools.lol)

^ thank youuu ;____; this Q has been bothering me for weeks

Oh and does anyone know whether admissions will find you “lazy” for not trying to attend another CC since yours does not offer many of your prereqs?

you will all know on 4/27 when the decisions come out.

i’m missing 5 for berkeley, 2 for ucla, and 3 or 4 for ucsd and irvine because my community college doesn’t have the courses articulated. i didn’t attend another school to meet those missing prereqs.

i read about someone who got rejected from ucla because he/she was missing 1 prereq. the admissions folks said he/she should’ve enrolled at another community college near his/her area because it offered that missing course.

erkki from ucla school of engineering told me that missing more than 2 prereqs = automatic rejection even if you have a high gpa

@aust1nku, I went to a transfer conference at UCLA last year and one of the speakers did mention that it is far more important to UCLA that you finish your major prep, even at the expense of your IGETC. She did mention that if the course isn’t articulated at your CC, then you should search for others in the area who offer it. This is only for UCLA though, I don’t think it matters as much to the other UCs.

@ColorsInTheStars

hopefully, their engineering dept will see that i’ll be done with their ge requirement by the end of the summer (not igetc), and that i took a discrete math course (one of the prereqs that is not articulated). i’m hoping they’ll see me as a admittable applicant because i’m only missing 2 courses compared to another applicant who may have met those two prereqs but is missing 3-4 ge courses.

i know for berkeley engineering it’s possible to miss 3+ prereqs and be admitted because on one of their faqs, they say admitted students who are missing 3+ prereqs will be given an additional semester. i mentioned on myberkeleyapp thingy that i took/am taking discrete math, assembly language, and circuit analysis–three of the 5 prereqs i’m missing. hopefully that’ll help

Those applying to transfer to Berkeley EECS from community colleges will almost certainly be missing at least three prerequisites: CS 70, EE 40, EE 20N. In addition, very few community colleges have CS 61A and/or CS 61C, and only a minority have CS 61B.

Berkeley L&S CS applicants do not need EE 20N and can take EE 42 instead of EE 40, but only a few community colleges have EE 42.

@Ucbalumnus: What about English Majors for Cal

The ASSIST pages for transferring to Berkeley English say to take as many of the four lower division English major courses (17, 45A, 45B, 45C) as possible. English 17 (Shakespeare) appears to be the most commonly available at community colleges; the others may take some searching, but seem to be more common than the CS courses needed for Berkeley EECS and L&S CS.

@Pavin: THANK YOU for asking that (’:

& thank you ucbalumnus for confirming that it’s not just my CC that only offers the Shakespeare course

Although I haven’t tried checking what the other schools nearby may offer… still, too late now o-o

Say we’ve taken every English class offered at the current CC with an outstanding gpa? However there is no Shakespeare class and due to economic difficult can’t commute to a different CC? This is actually for my friend who doesn’t have an acc on here and is tripping out.
3.95 gpa; English; essay great; ec deans list etc.
Her fright is lack of English Pre Reqs due to lack of them at her specific CCC

I am a Phil major at UCLA, poli sci at berk…

May I ask what your stats are pavin?

Now that you guys have mentioned…i’m actually missing 2 pre reqs and 2 pre reqs not offered at my school totaling 4. haha im screwed. i should have just chosen psychology major as my first choice where i actually FINISHED ALL my pre req. i feel soooo dumb. ughh =(

@pavin: A very reliable friend of mine who worked at my school’s transfer center & got into CAL for English last year (although she goes to Columbia w/ fullride now) told me that if you show that you have interest in the subject = your friend taking all the English courses offered at her CC, the admissions people will take that into consideration despite her not being able to complete all the prereqs listed. So it’s great that she went out and did that! I’ve only completed ONE English course in college while the others are just a very random array of humanities courses… (ie art history, psych, sociology)
But are you saying that she couldnt complete even one? ← just curious. I’m sure the admissions people will understand since I bet there may be quite a sum of English major applicants who could only complete one or two of the prereqs, if any…
And her GPA is almost perfect! aha but now I’m getting super nervous know that she is a much more competitive applicant than me ..;; haha but it’s a good thing for her!
And since you say her essays are great, that is already very good considering how she is an English major & with CAL being the one UC that reaaalllyyrealllyy considers the essay… (I hate both my essays -_- why am I an English major again…)

Of the two pre-reqs articulated for her major, she has completed not even one. Like I said she has completed all English courses made possible to her at that CCC…

I’m sure with your even one pre-req completed it still makes you competitive!

I hope she gets in, she works way harder than me and deserves the admittance!

Thanks sunnybaNANA!
