I’m posting on behalf of my daughter who deals with this by not wanting to talk about it! I need to vent and obsess! She looks great except her test scores, in the middle 50% but math is on the lowest end for that. AP scores & SAT Subject test scores were really good but regular not so much. Just average EC’s but everything else is very good. If she doesn’t get in I bet it’s her test scores. So nervous!
I feel like I’m in a similar place with your daughter. My SAT score is in the 50%range, with a high CRW score but a math score on the lower end. My AP scores and overall transcript is solid, with a nice collection of honors and EC activities under my belt. Still, my essays were probably the highlight of my application. And to think the ride’s coming to an end…
I hope her essays were strong, seemed to be, but I know her letters were very strong. Worried about math & that she has no back ups, except schools that are even more of a reach, ugh.
My test scores are AWFUL. If I don’t get in that’s the reason. It’s hard when you found the perfect place and it’s just out of reach. My essays were awesome. What did you write your supplemental on if you dont mind answering?
@Thecollegegal I wrote the supplemental essay about my speech impediment, and how it fostered an unique outlook on communication, both written and oral. It’s a nice little ditty. You?
I wrote about my synesthesia. Which is when my taste and color/seeing senses are blended.
And how that makes me “colorful”
I have that too! I see colors in letters and numbers and my sense of smell can be all mixed up. Funny, I don’t meet many others who have it.
Thats SOOOO cool!! i see letters with colors too! and when i hear i see. This is awesome!!
My daughter did, I’m her mother. She doesn’t seem to have inherited it from me, just a little maybe, but neither of my parents have it.
Thats odd! My grandma has it and my mom. It made a good essay idea!
I haven’t even met one person with synesthesia (still technically haven’t…) yet this college managed to bring together two people with a rather rare neurological occurrence. Weird
That’s funny. I have met a few people. It’s pretty cool, isn’t it. How long have you known for?
Oh, it’s an absolutely fascinating essay topic. I’m sure the admissions team loved it.
I knew when I was quite little, preschool, I used to think I was magic, lol. I didn’t put a name to it until about 15 yrs ago though. Yes, good idea for an essay! How long have you known?
I found out 7 years ago when the schooled called my parents in because I kept saying red tasted bad and I wouldn’t change what I was saying. My parents thought it would be a good idea to have me “tested” and then tell me it ran in the family. I just wrote my essay about how looking at art is a multi-sensory experience.
Great story and sounds like a wonderful essay!!
Thanks! What did your daughter write about?
You all seem like such wonderful and interesting people; I told myself I was going to just relax. That was just a lie. This hype is too real, I’m praying decisions come out today! @invertedflowers I have synesthesia as well (I guess the W&M applicant pool is as “rare” as they come lol). Also, @Thecollegegal to reply to your earlier comments about how much of a reach W&M is… it was a huge (HUGE) one for me. I took the SAT once with the flu and had to walk out only on the 7th section; Needless, to say I only scored in the mid 1600’s on the old one. I then took the ACT once and scored a 27 were I had a terrible test day (didn’t sleep the night before and didn’t finish a single section). My parents then refused to let me take the test again, as " I was wasting their money". So to be brief my test scores are atrocious. I’m praying that it is something overlooked, because I want to study French there more than I want to breathe. I toured the school freshman year and I instantly fell in love. At my school there are 12 of us who did ED to William & Mary and we are all best friends, so we know some of us are going to be dissapointed. But no matter what happens, I wish everyone the best of luck. I feel so nervous right now, hoping to finish today out at school and then just sulk on this forum until we find back our decision.
Oh no, @TribeAspirer2021, I myself don’t have synesthesia. That’d be far too interesting. Initially, I was just marveling that both gal and cloud have it. Quite a coincidence, one that grows with the addition of you. Really, at this point, I feel like my chances were hurted by not having it…
Anyway, W&M puts an extraordinary amount of weight behind the essay, EC’s, etc, so perhaps any “weaknesses” could be nullified by particularly strong ‘Personal Qualities’ that shine on the application. That’s what I’m hoping for, at least. Are you in-state or out?
