I got rejected from Cambridge and Stanford, but accepted in Imperial and McGill

"12, accepted to 7 of 8 that I've heard from."

Congrats! What schools did you make it in to?

@reachfordreams: Goodluck!

"Goodluck!"

Thanks!...same to you! Are you IS or OOS?

International. . .im guessing IS stands for international student and oos stands for out of state student

Oh, interesting!

No, IS = in state :)
OOS = out of state

It is hard to get in out of state! I hope you make it! Did you get a likely letter?

no, my stats arent THAT good. . . when does UVa respond? Do you know?

What grade are you in?

Well you get your decision letter by April 1st (Less than a month!)

Is UVA one of your top choices?

Freshmen hahaha (yes I know I shouldn't be on this website in only freshmen year)

My family is a big "UVA lovers" family so I've wanted to go there forever!

Ya, I would say it is. Well good luck with that make sure you keep your GPA up, but don't forget to have fun :D. Its highschool!

Thanks, I hear that advice a lot! :)

Ok, so when my parents came home from a college meeting at my H.S. they said the guidance counselor giving the presentation said kids should be applying to about 6 schools. My parents told me this and I just started to laugh, and told them I have like 20 schools on my list right now. They were like "But you're going to cut that down, right?"
And I said, Yeah to like 15 schools, maybe 14 lol.

Hope my GC does not get too PO'ed, has anyone's GC gotten kind of mad?

My GC says we should apply to five schools or less and that three is ideal. One reach, on match, one safety. I don't think he understands probabilities.

^^your GC and my parents must be friends. I'm expected to apply to 2 and max 4 schools

I applied to ten and have been accepted at 7 and deferred at one so far, waiting to hear from the last two. Now i feel i applied to too many schools, and will have a very hard decision. My advice would be to narrow down your list as much as possible when applying.

But my big concern is $. So I'm expecting some crappy FA/merit $ and hoping for some good offers, so that is kind of why I want to apply to a high number of schools.

I heard of someone who applied to 31, "like the flavors of ice cream."
I applied to 17. Hey I wanted options!

Advice to those who are applying: make sure you like your safety schools! My list was lots of reaches and super reaches, and just a few likelies and safeties. I ended up at Emory, which was probably a reach, and I love it. But make sure you'd like your safeties and likelies too!!!! Also be honest with yourself about admission difficulty! When you visit campuses and you see the hundreds or thousands of students walking around it's hard to remember that these are often schools rejecting 80 or 90% (or more) of their applicants.

I don't remember all of them, but here's about half:

1Tufts-ED-deferred
2Brown
3Middlebury
4Tulane
5Univ. of Vermont
6Trinity College (CT)
7 UPenn
8 Emory (duh). EMORY'S THE BEST SCHOOL IN THE WORLD!!!!!! I GO HERE AND LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!! okay done spazzing.
9 Oxford College of Emory
10 Cornell
11 Boston University

I applied to 16 universities/colleges: 3 reach, 5 match, and 8 safety (wanted a variety just in case worse comes to worst). I think this was a good number because at least now I have variety. I think 3 would be too much of a gamble since its possible to get rejected from 2 of the 3 (if the 1 left is your safety school). Though I do know someone who applied to only 3 schools (all reach category) and got into all 3, but he had CRAZY credentials and a tear-jerking essay (it was very moving). All in all, I think it's still best to have a selection, just in case. I would've applied to 20 but it would've taken too much time, plus for some ivies, they'll only let you apply there up to a maximum of 3 times. Therefore, I am saving the "big guns" for graduate school.

I applied to 8 schools
