Anyone applying this year????

hi, my name is maduka. I am a Nigerian. A country in West Africa. Anyways, I am one of those confused newbies and I think the best thing to do is to hear from my fellow applicants to yale for the class of 2011.

Please it would be nice to know some of you so that we could all help ourselves to get into this School. Pls I want to know if anyone has taken his/her S.A.Ts, what he/she got and everything.

I havent taken mine..........yet! Taking it this october. I am very determined to get admitted and I think it would help all of us if we all talk about the stages we are in the application process.

Hope to get replies soon. Please, lets help ourselves out here.

SAT: 2190
760 m, 740 cr, 690 w

GPA: 3.8 uw, 4.1 w

applying to yale, harvard, columbia, amherst, u minn twin cities, macalester, sarah lawrence, and a few of the following: furman, hamilton, cornell, u chicago, u rochester, grove city, bard, carleton, swarthmore, wesleyan, u penn, wustl. (Currently 18 schools...needs some narrowing down!!)

nice, nice

see the thing is that here in Nigeria. We dont use weighted GPA. We do "AVERAGE" GPA for all 6 yrs of study in school. and mine is 4.8/5.0.

Applying to Yale, Princeton, M.I.T, Cornell, Columbia, Rice, Trinity, Georgia Tech, Illinois Tech, UCLA, Boston, Penn State, Bucknell, Univ. of Maryland, College park. dnt kno if i need to shorten it. (14 schools).

I think you should keep your options as open as possible to avoid dissapointments Lavender. Although writing a lot of applications can be tiring though. lol.

Anyways, when u doing your SAT 2? Are you kinda nervous in this application stuff. Because I am...... especially on the essay part. Do you know any book/site/etc that could help in writing essays?

SAT I (by section): 770 CR, 800 M, 780 W (12 essay)

(our school adds 5 points on the grade averaged into the GPA for honors/AP classes, of which i've taken 9 in 3 years)

Rank: 2-10/325 (unranked past 2)

Senior Yr Courseload: French 2, AP: Latin, Physics, Calc, English lit, Psych,

Teacher Recs: 1 superamazingcouldntbebetter... 1 good

Counselor Rec: should be good

Essays: I suppose they'll be fine, i'm a decent writer, but probably not amazing.

State or Country: NY, USA

School Type: Public school

Ethnicity: White

Income Bracket: Upper Middle Class

Gender: Male

Hooks: Umm... I took a science class with the county's Alumni Association president, but i don't know if i'll ever meet the guy. Also, i got the Yale book award my junior year, and wrote a pretty nice thank you letter to the same Alumni Association president.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Two other really amazing people will apply from my school and will definitely get in before i do. Yale isn't that likely to accept 3 people from a class of 325 (although this year they took two, but one was a legacy a billion times over and the other was basically perfect in every way. In fact, a third, very very qualified person, the salutatorian, probably didn't get in for that reason.)

Haha, you used the decision thread format! Wait, I think that's my revised version! Hehe.

I am SO applying for 2011.

SAT: 2240 (800 M, 720 CR, 720 W)
ACT: 35 (36 English, 36 Science, 34 Math, 33 Reading)
GPA: 3.95 UW, 4.70 W
SAT II: 2380 (800 Bio, 800 Math2, 780 Chem)

Applying to: YALE!! (SCEA), Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, MIT, Northwestern, Penn, Princeton, Rutgers, Stanford, Tufts.

I'm applying to a bunch of competitive schools because Rutgers is my perfect safety: practically guaranteed admission because, well, it's Rutgers; almost no tuition (in state, sister currently attending, hopefully merit scholarships); close to home; close to my sister; in an urban environment; and a strong program in what I might major in. Why would I apply to other safeties that will cost more and won't be as good in my field?

I'm applying for 2011 also. My stats are on some other thread somewhere...don't feel like reposting them all...maybe later.

Applying to: Yale (SCEA), Brown, Sarah Lawrence, Northwestern, Emerson, maybe UChicago and a few others.

WOO FOR US!

wow! your stats are amazing mann! now i really like not applying anymore. lol. "theoneo" i think you should apply to atleast 1 or 2 extra safety schools. Im sure you could find other schools that are just the right fit for you. my opinion though.

Any other applicants!!!????

Okocha, Yakubu, Yobo, Martins, Kanu, etc.

Nigeria's contribution to football is fantastic.

I'm ****ed about Obi Mikel though... he went to Chelsea.

I'm applying too.

Agrh, I'm well and truly dazzled yet intimidated by you guys' stats.

Still, I have a small question: It's axiomatic that Yale requires three SAT IIs. If I take Math I, II and another subject in humanity, is that ok ? Because I read somewhere that Math Ic and IIc are just considered as one subject, meaning I won't fulfill Yale's testing requirements. That will be crushingly bad :(
Thanks a bunch for your inputs :)

Ask a Yale admissions officer. I'd advise three different subjects though

SAT I (by section): 800 CR, 790 M, 800 W (11 essay)

I'm just a fun person!

SAT I (by section): retaking high 600s to low 700s on each

ACT: (we midwesterners love it) 32, specifically 31s on science and reading, 33s on math and english - i really wish we could combine scores from different dates like the SAT bc then mine would rule :)

-Safety Town teen: (grades 6-12) teach kids going into kindergarten road safety. 5 days/week, 2weeks/summer
-internship with one of my state senators: my largest contribution thus far was to dream up WI Senate Bill 229, which would give athletes at any level and sport so long as it is sanctioned by the Wisconsin Athletic Association (WIAA) the option to take an academic course instead of PE. Its not that i dont like gym, its just id rather take another art class instead and ive even taken gym before school so i can take more art classes. the gym nazis must all just be after me. Alas. Anyway, currently the bill is in the education committee awaiting its next hearing (i testified at the last one, a very entertaining story im sure youd all just love to hear) if youd like to learn more about it go to the WI legislative site and search for SB 229. also, if you would like to offer support, always useful and especially significant when coming from students, feel free to let me know and ill give you my email address.

legacy: dad, also i have 2 uncles who graduated from yale and a cousin who will be a sophomore next year

ManUTD..... although this is not a futball thread, i also think the same way. Nigerian footballers ARE good.

Anyways, you all have seriously great STATS. hope we all get in. also are we all applying ED or RD??? Important and how does that affevt your admission....??? Does it also affect the financial aid thing?

Applying early should help your chances a little but not tremendously because it's early action and not early decision, and since it's early action you can always compare financial aid pacakges if you get in.... But yah, I'm applying EA! How exciting!

ivynut you have a REALLY good chance of getting in - i wish you the best of luck. i dont think the 700 will kill you bc all of your other scores are really high so its up to you whether you want to use the act or sat

by the way, im applying EA. i hope we all get in too.... good luck!!! :)
