Anyone applying to Jacobs University Bremen?

@asenova09 Yes, I hope so too! Do you know where you would want to live?

No emails regarding admission decision yet. I did get an email from Jacobs telling me that they need original copies of bank statements and salary slips instead of photocopied ones. I sent those today, Waiting anxiously for the result.

Hey stevenlyan. Sorry about delay.I’ve replied you email. Remember to check it~^^

@thunderboltsid

That’s about the financial package I think. It has little to do with the admission result so it should not affect your application.

February is soon to come. I guess you will receive the result in a week, :slight_smile: Good luck to you! And to everybody!

@thunderboltsid @stevenlyan

I have not heard anything except that I was being considered in Round I… is that a bad sign? :O

@Mac546 I know how you feel, I’m going through the same thing. Waiting is the hardest part of the application process.

I’m waiting for their decision, too.
Staying calm is getting harder every day.

Hi guys,
Greetings from India. As mentioned earlier, I contacted Jacobs students assistant - Imelda. Here is a copy of our communication(Most of it).

Me : Ok. A lot of people on college confidential state that most of the need based aid at Jacobs comprises of Tuition deferrals(Loans) instead of grants. Is it true?

Her : Dear Siddharth, the financial package usually consists of a merit based scholarships, grants, based on your family financial situation and tuition postponement. loan could be around 25% of the full tuition, however it varies from case to case. It is possible to get a full scholarship as well

Me : What are the employment prospects after graduation? Which AP examinations can be used for transferring credits to Jacobs transcripts? The website says AP exams can contribute to 15 ECTS. How many credits does one AP exam earn?

Her : About employment prospects, according to statistics, most Jacobs graduates don’t have a hard time getting jobs but I will say it takes self initiative. You need to make yourself known to employers through career events on campus or internships. For instance after my internship with IBM this summer, I immediately asked about employment opportunities after graduation and now I have secured a place for myself there. As for AP exams, when you come to campus, you are allowed to write advanced placement exams for some courses like Mathematics and a pass in this will grant you the credits. Other courses you can AP depends on your major.

Me : When are round 1 going to come out?

Her : It changes from year to year, but I would expect them around February

Me : Hey, I wasn’t able to get these stats on internet so I’m asking here.
1: What’s the three-year graduation rate at Jacobs University?
2: What’s the average starting salary of an undergrad(EECS/CS)?
3: What percentage of the students go to grad school immediately after graduation?
4: Are undergrad students allowed to initiate a research?

Her : Hi Siddharth, I will forward your questions 1-3 to the Admissions staff and see if they have the stats. All I have is my opinion but I gather this is not what you’re looking for.To answer your last question, yes undergraduate students at Jacobs can initiate a research project. If you come across anything you are passionate about in your major, professors here are always willing to help supervise you and I know of students who have been involved with research topics at a very early stage in their undergraduate degree here.

Me : Hi! did you get answers for Q1-3 yet?

Her : So here are the answers I got from our staff member:
1: 95%
2: 30,000-50,000 Euros
3: do not have exact stats but the majority go on to grad school
I hope this gives a general feel of things.

Me : Yes, that does. Thanks a lot.

@thunderboltsid Thank you, that’s a lot of interesting information!
So…we won’t hear from the admissions office by the end of January, right?
That’s sad.

@Mac546

I don’t think it means anything. Perhaps the admission office is really busy at the moment… Just drive that negative thought out of your mind.

Could you please tell me whether it is a bad sign that I didn’t have an interview?

@lennydelgado

It’s not. I have known several admitted students who did not take an interview. And in fact I don’t think the admission office would have enough time to interview all the applicants.

@Lennydelgado I don’t think interview is an issue, and I hope it isn’t as I haven’t had an interview with Jacobs and time for results is approaching. Do you mind sharing your stats(SATs, TOEFL/IELTS, Grades, ECs, etc.)?

@stevenlyan - Did Jacobs interview you prior to admission?

Dear Siddharth,
Thank you for your email – all decisions will be sent out by the end of this month.

Best Wishes,
Rosalyn Harrison

@thunderboltsid

Yes. But it did not seem like a must. The officer just asked a few questions and we chatted very casually most of the time.

I looked all over the website and it never required an interview. I asked once and never got a response. I don’t think it is very important

@thunderboltsid

When did you get this e-mail? Lets hope we receive a decision this week!

@asenova09 I received the email on January 22, 2012. Do you mind sharing you stats?

@thunderboltsid

I received the deicision finally! And I’ve been accepted :)))
