Anyone applying to Jacobs University Bremen?

Hey guys, If you use facebook, add me(thunderboltsid@hotmail’dot’com).
@Lennydelgado My preferred major is EECS(electrical engineering and computer science). What’s yours?

Hie guys. I’ve been following your thread for quite some time now. I am also considering Jacobs right now but my parents are still a bit skeptical about it. I’ll most likely go there though 'cause I’ve heard that the engineering and science degrees are amazing and Germany is a cool (but apparently very boring) place to live in. Congratulations to everyone who got admitted

@ChavXO Are you admitted yet?or not? In any case, please list your stats. If you’re admitted what’s your choice of major?

@stevenlyan @thunderboltsid Cool! I chose Biotechnology.

@maryflex Awesome! Do you have VK account, by the way?

Yeah, i do) http://■■■■■■/id40241504</a> add me!

Hey guys, I have been on here quite a bit. I didn’t get much money, I do think the first scholarship is just SATs, for mine were bad.

On the somewhat bright side, college here in America is just as expensive, so my parents have been saving since I was born, hopefully I will get more.

I should be attending this fall, unless something huge changes. I am going in a few weeks to visit it, and to visit my German family. I will let you all know how it is :)

How do we apply for the host family program?

And these extra scholarships, how do we apply?

@Mac546

Looking forward to meeting you in fall :)

For the external scholarship I guess we should contact the sponsor directly. Just google “German scholarship for international undergraduate” or something like that there would be many links. Then find those which match you. Or you can go to the websites of DAAD to see if you meet any requirement.

For the host family program, I have no idea of it. I thought we would live on campus.

does the amount of scholarship depend on the financial aid application? If so, then that may be a reason I haven’t received any email about scholarships yet.

@Mac546 Check out DAAD for external support. How much scholarship did you receive from Jacobs?

@stevenlyan the Host family is moreorless just to have a contact in Bremen. And maybe for like Christmas a place to stay, because I don’t think we can stay on campus.

@thunderboltsid I only got 2500, but my act score was just a 27, so I assumed it would be so. I only took it once. The sat was a lot harder for me, I hated how it jumped around in subjects.

So glad none of that matters anymore!

@Mac546 Well, It’s good that your parents saved money for your college education. I’m aware of host family system, it’s pretty cool. They might come in handy if we ever face issues in Bremen.

Hey guys,

I would like to know what preparation would you make before heading towards Germany for college. I am doing my German lesson at the moment. Any other good suggestions?

@stevenlyan

As far as I know you wouldn’t even need German. I talked to people who studied at my school before going there, and they said that some people don’t even earn the language for their 3 years there. :smiley: But it is a good thing if you would like to communicate more freely outside campus, even though most people in Germany speak English.

@asenova09

Yup I am interested in foreign languages. I suppose we would face a lot of info in German there. Even just knowing the basic would help. And recently I read quite a lot about the country. Cars, beers and many others, even though I myself don’t drive or drink. I guess we are going to learn quite a lot from our roommates:).

@stevenlyan
Yes, roomates is something I look forward to! I love the fact that their policy is to put you with somebody from a different country than yours. Have you chosen a college yet?

@Stevenlyan I’d suggest german lessons and studying some specific courses you can AP at Jacobs for extra credit such as calculus, etc. Give a call to the registrar and ask the courses you can AP in your major.

Admitted with a 10 000 euro merit scholarship and awaiting my full financial aid package.

Mathelete (regional level)
Creative writer (national honours)

…the list goes on really :D

Admitted via round one. I like Jacobs so chances are I’ll be attending but I’m still awaiting my RD schools to reply :D

Y’all seem like very talented individuals as well. I’m sure it would be a pleasure of learning with you. And anyone who is keen on varsity debate (very few people are sadly) we might be partnering up in September.

By the way, I’m from Zimbabwe (repping southern Africa)

And @stevenlyan, I heard from a current freshman that everyone has single rooms. Can anyone confirm that? Oh and @thunderboltsid I asked the admission office if I could do a double major in Electric engineering and computer science and Integrated social sciences…but if that falls through then the former will do just fine.

@ChavXO

Congratulations!
Yes freshmans do have single rooms, but they share an apartment with another person who is chosen by random.

@ChavXO Yes you can do double major, but the courseload will be too intense. I’d recommend studying a month at Jacobs to decide whether you want to pursue yourself to double major. EECS is already a type of double major(As the name suggests), so double major might be tedious. If I’d be able to manage a double major, I’d opt for computer science(CS/EECS) and cognitive science. I haven’t received my scholarship/financial aid email yet, so perhaps my financial documents are still in transit. I’d be glad to join Jacobs mainly due to diversity and 3 year course(Why would I join a 4 year bachelor course when I can get a bachelor + master in 4 years? :wink: ). Hope we meet at Jacobs and hopefully on the varsity team ;)(I’m a distinguished debater in my city). I’d also like to join the rowing team and student newspaper team, but it depends on the availability of time.
