My son did - for Journalism. Just wondering if there was anybody else out there....

You know my S is (also J-school)! He's done the paper application and just needs his counselor's sign-off after school starts next week.

S2 plans to apply for J-school as well! I'm an alum, and we visited this summer. He had never been there (we live too far to go out for a football game--sigh!), but he really liked it--was very impressed with the journalism!

I'm on the fence. I like their journalism program, but there doesn't seem to be much in terms of scholarships. I'm waiting for a rep to visit my high school before I decide.

It seems to me that there are a lot of scholarships, particularly if you are from Missouri. As an OOS student, my son is eligible for just one, the Mark Twain Nonresident Scholarship.
http://sfa.missouri.edu/Prospective_Students/scholarships/pro-scholarships.php

S2 is eligible for a Mizzou Heritage Scholarship. We are OOS, but because I am an alum, and his grades and scores are well above the requirements, he would have all OOS tuition waived--that would be great!

I would be able to get the Mark Twain, but 5500 off still leaves the price considerably higher than it would be elsewhere... Anyone know if an out of stater who isn't a minority can get anything worth more?

As I understand it, some of their individual colleges, including the journalism school, also offers scholarships (I don't know how much $). There is a separate scholarship application for that.

Why don't you e-mail or call the admissions office with this question? My S found that they're very helpful--that's what they are there for. As oregonianmom says, there's a separate scholarship application form (with essay).

UPDATE: Son has been accepted into Journalism! Geezermom already knows, but I wanted to share the good news to others out there. Get your applications in early - they make decisions quickly!

:)

Congrats to oregonianmom's S!!!!!!!!!!!!! :):)

S2 is meeting with his counselor today (Friday), and is about ready to send in his app! Applying to other schools, too, but Mizzou definitely on the short list!

Another update: The fat envelope arrived today, containing the official acceptance letter which also stated that they are giving him the Mark Twain scholarship. :) :) :) :)

That's great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go New Tiger oregonianmom's S:)

Great news about the Mark Twain Scholarship! Your S should really notice that he's "in" now! There is a great story in the fall alumni magazine about the j-school. I'm sure the admissions office would send him a copy.

Irrelevant story: My H (a Show-Me State native through and through) has always been mad that some people think Mark Twain came from Connecticut because his house in Hartford is now a historic house museum.

My S's transcript should be on the way to Mizzou this week (would have been faster if we'd taken the 2-day drive to take it there ourselves).

If you have dont have enough to qualify for the 5,500 Mark twain scholarship, but do have enough for a 4,000 one, can the amount change if your SAT scores improve? Should I wait to apply until after my Nov. SAT results are back or should I submit my application now?
