Just judging by the number of people who applied from CC alone (considerable, I think just about around the same number as those who applied to the other dual degree programs from CC), quite a bit probably applied!

Oh my, it’s probably because the professor’s just very busy, no big deal I’m sure.

I just missed having a talk with the profs, they were returning the day after I visited. And if only CC people applied, pretty much all the ED spots would be taken. My guess is 3 to 4 more times as many people applied ED, but who knows. At this point, I just want to be accepted to my backup major…I’m so tired of filling out apps and searching for similar programs

I emailed prof. Kearns with some questions I had.

(@ holycau) 3 to 4 more times as many people applying. Jeez, that’s rough. Btw, when you say all the ED spots will be filled up if only CC kids are applying, did you get that from somewhere or is it just an educated guess?

Hey guys, I’m new to this website. I was hoping to help clear up some information for all of you. I’ve got pretty close ties with Penn and know a lot about the program. There are going to be about 20 spots or so, more if there are a lot of qualified applicants. They were not planning on accepting anyone early decision, although I am not quite sure where that stands now.

Rower: thanks for the post, but I’m crossing my fingers that you are wrong! :-p If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know about admissions for the MKSE program?

That’s terrible; I probably wouldn’t have applied ED to that major if I knew previously they weren’t planning to accept early…

Thank you so much for your help though! I have a question: Do you know if they would prefer to defer an applicant to RD or accept them in their single choice? I hope the latter.

Of course I don’t mind you asking. My dad is an alum of the engineering school so I went with him to homecoming. We went to Kearn’s lecture before and the reception after and that is what I heard from Dr. Glandt.

And dareturon I am sorry but I do not know what they prefer, I am sorry.

Looks to me like there are gonna be a bunch of defers tomorrow…unless you are a true genius (i.e. Zuckerberg) who might be snatched up by HYPS in RD. I figured they were going to asses the talent pool as a whole, since it’s new and all. And I really doubt they’ll accept much for single choice (unless the “fit” just doesn’t seem right). Yep, deferments (or, you know, rejection) all around.

holycau that was exactly their reasoning for not wanting to accept people early, but like I said before, that might have changed from the last time I talked to dr. Glandt. I know that I checked the box that said if I do not get in I did not want to be looked at for general admission and I am not sure how that is going to affect my chances.

Yeah, I agree, this is super disheartening.
But…
Rower, ED is the only round they consider legacy and you only checked the ED box, so if anyone is in, it’s you.

I agree! I know this is probably childish, but I almost feel cheated that they offered ED for this program knowing full well that no one would be accepted. If they had felt that way, I would have preferred them to have closed that program to ED applicants.

I feel really bad for opening up this can of worms, they said they were not planning on accepting anyone early, that does not mean they are not going to. The possibility still exists that they will accept people early.
