Okay good, the Admissions Tips on the Penn site said they
“highly encourage SEAS applicants” to send them. In my case, it wasn’t through lack of trying that I was unsuccessful in taking them. Of course I signed up for December but that’s obviously not going to help for Penn.

It was a decent interview. I couldn’t really connect with him because of our personality differences and the fact that there wasn’t much he could ask about this program since he didn’t even know about it. But he was a really really cool and nice guy. He told me he was excited to see someone from our area applying to Penn and said that the interview will be positive and definitely cant hurt on the application. So it I guess I shouldn’t feel too uncomfortable.

I applied to MKSE too. Where else did you guys consider, and what do you want to study exactly? I was thinking of CS programs mostly and am interested in algorithmic game theory.

I have finally come to grips with the fact that I am more likely to get rejected/deferred than accepted to this major. I was wondering, just like Franklion above me, what other programs people have looked into? Any other programs out there that deal with systems/networks/connectedness and manage to incorporate a wide array of fields ((micro)economics/sociology/applied math/computer science)?

I also foresee a rejection/deferral in the future but, unfortunately, I don’t know of any similar programs :/. I figure I’ll be a computer science major if I go to any other college.

I know! I’m looking at Systems Engineering/Computer Science for other schools. I’m really expecting rejection as well. Do you know if we were looked at earlier because we’re dual degree? Or no?

I’m not sure how admissions work, sorry. But, I think it’s funny that most of us are saying we’re going to get rejected. It’d be great if all of us got in. I don’t see many other people applying to this program, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I feel like they decided this major a long time ago and then went on to deciding single major options. At first I thought there would be a higher acceptance rate, but now I just think there’s gonna be a higher deferment rate (so they can sift through the whole talent pool for that all important “first class”). And judging how many people ED’d, it looks like Penn marketed this major better than I thought… haha how ironic

@ holycau It’s believable that they already made the decisions. Hopefully the 2nd part isn’t true though :P. I already think I’m getting deferred as it is.

Anyways, we should all post our decisions here in 6 days.

Good idea! Yeah, I was just wondering because although we’re listed as “dual degree”, it’s odd that we aren’t really dual degree as in we’re only in the SEAS.

I didn’t even know we were considered dual degree until the essay!

No it doesn’t. And, I even emailed one of the professors of the program and he never replied ! How embarassing. I hope that isn’t a bad sign or anything. And, I’m not sure how well they marketed it, but, we managed to find out about it didn’t we?
