I was thinking of commuting to UCLA (to save money) from the TO/Westlake area. Is anyone else commuting. If so, from where, and how long the commute. :)

I’m commuting from around the Glendale area. about 30 min or less with no traffic.

do you know if its a guarantee we’ll get a parking permit???

afaik there’s no guarantee whatsoever - you apply for one and it’s either granted or denied.

I have heard that if you commute with someone, it is easier to not only get a permit, but is is also cheaper.

that sucks…
so some communters might not even get a permit???

is it like… first come basis??

how do they determine who gets one or not?

some of it depends on academic (regents, alumni scholar, etc), while the rest I think depends on commuting time. Parking permits however are like $189 per quarter.

Just found this:

Parking for students is granted by a point system that considers things such as: class standing, commuter distance, dependent children, employment, alumni/regent scholar standing, and Graduates in professional schools that are required to go off campus for field study.

Parking Lot choices also play a role as if you only make a limited amount of parking choices, you may rank high on points and not receive parking because the choices you made were not available or there were limited spaces and your point total was not enough for the particular lot.

Still no guarantee though…just makes it more likely if you have to commute a long way.

^^thanks for the info!!

The regular one is $189 but apparently there are a few different options…

is it even safe to bring a car to UCLA?? Also is anyone considering vanpooling??

That sucks! That is the only reason why I am debating about moving to UCLA off campus apartments! I want to be able to take my car.
