Anyone has had experience in getting a student parking permit for UCLA?? Are they hard to get? Is it even safe/reasonable to bring a car to UCLA, if not going commute?

i think that it is safe to bring a car to ucla. even if you are not going to commute you may need to get somewhere that isn’t walking distance; or for those days when its raining and you dont want to walk to get food or something.

i’m not sure how hard it is to get a parking permit. there are different types.

i have friends that go there and have their cars with them and nothing has every happened to them.

parking in westwood itself is an art. if you dont have a permit you’ll have to know which side is streetsweeping in thursdays and fridays and where 2 hour parking is.

i live about 45 minutes from ucla so if you don’t live close but close enough to drive home it might be reasonable to bring a car for times when you feel like going home.

hope that helps.

if one gets a parking permit for ucla, are the spots practically guaranteed? i know it says it is not guaranteed on the website, but realistically speaking, are there times where it is so crowded that spots arent available?

I don’t have any experience getting an actual UCLA permit obviously. But I’ve lived in the heart of westwood, with a car, and it was probably one of the worst decisions of my life! HAHA…SOOOOOOO many parking tickets, and parking is always always unavailable. I mean, you don’t NEED a car in Westwood if all you want to do is go to class, and hang out in Westwood.

I would feel so isolated without my car though. I’m so dependent on my car in LA, thank god I’m outta here!!! :)

are there any tricks that any one knows about for getting as many points for the parking application? i know that you have to have a high number of points to be eligible for certain parking garages but how can one go about getting this points?

i know a far job is one, but i have a job but no recent pay stubs since i took the semester off from work but stayed on their payroll…ill be working again this summer though so i dont know how im going to swing my job as a reason for a permit

Parking at UCLA is a gift. One that should be cherished.

In order to get the most points, you have to live furthest away from the school.

You won’t get a permit if you live in westwood

You’re lucky if you get one if you live within 4-5 miles

You won’t get a permit in the lot that you desire the most

If you have a job where you work 3-4 days a week, maybe

If you have a parking space at your apartment, I recommend you bring a car to help with weekly chores such as buying food. And going out on the weekends. Most of the time, mon-thurs, get used to walking to campus.
