Anyone decided on Knox yet?

I'm ecstatic that Knox accepted me, including the Muelder scholarship. It'll be two weeks before I get the financial aid packet, but every other FA packet so far has given me maximum Pell grants (poor family), so I wouldn't expect any less from them. I'm visiting with my family in late April to check out the campus, classes, and professors. Everything I've read has been wonderful. Certainly the clear #1 option for me.

I'm thinking of going into some mix of psychology, biology, and/or creative writing (interests are based in that order), I spent some time going through the threads, but just curious to see if anyone else is planning on attending/pursuing those majors!

I’m still waiting on the Knox Financial Aid Package…it’ll definitely hold sway over whether or not I go there. I’m coming to visit in late April too, hopefully! And I would go to Knox for their stellar creative writing program :D

Where else are you still considering? Sadly Knox is only a few hours south of home. I wanted to end up back on the coast, but I can’t afford any of the schools there and Knox just seems to be the perfect fit.

Just thought I’d make a note about financial aid and whatnot. I received an incredibly generous package a little while ago that makes Knox quite affordable, so that will not stop me from coming now. I’m excited to see the campus next week (and especially coming in by train, haven’t done that in quite some time), though a bit nervous because I hope I haven’t been hyping Knox up too much in my mind.

I’m also thinking about taking a language now and maybe pairing it with a social science, such as their Integrated International Studies major. Knox covers so many of my interests, it’s going to be hard to narrow it down.

^^^ Congrats on the great FA package! Hope you have a great trip, and let us know what you think of Knox. It has recently come on our radar, as we are widening S’s net.

I too got a good FA package, it met my EFC, but my EFC was 2.5 times what I could afford, so I cannot go to Knox in the end, as I got even better FA from Beloit College. I loved Knox though and it is an amazing school.

Just wondering we visited Knox early April. My son is a junior and he adored it. I just don’t know if we can afford it. How much $ did you all get? supposedly there is a Chicago HS scholarship. the kids we met said that they got substantial merit scholarships so I was a little upset to read that they don’t give alot of money to middle class families.

Oh, you visited xam? How was your experience?

As for my FA, I won’t give specifics but my EFC was almost nil. I got a great package that covered the vast majority of the cost per year, a mix of merit and FA. Wittenberg also matched that offer, so now I’m taking a hard look at both schools.

hey, I just decided toda that I’m gonna go to knox next year and I’m really excited!!! I was trying to decide between knox and occidental but I ultimately decided on knox because the schools were really similar but knox was gonna be over $10,000 cheaper per year. I actually didn’t get any financial aid from knox (or any other school for that matter) but I did get a $12,500 merit scholarship which was really nice.

Before, I wasn’t really sure if I wanted to go there because it’s close to home and it’s in a rural area, but the more I think about it, I’m actually really excited. I always knew that I wanted to go to a small liberal arts school because I wanted the freedom to explore different types of classes and have good relationships with my professors. Also, I’ve heard a lot of really nice things about Knox from people that go there.
And about the rural thing (if anyone else had that concern)… everyone just learns to make their own fun and schools ‘in the middle of nowhere’ (sorry to use that expression) always have plenty of options of clubs and activities, etc. whereas schools in urban areas don’t really have anything because they figure that the cities provide enough entertainment for the students.

That’s great news, Papillion! I’m still worried that it is too close to home for me, but not so much the ruralness. I’m actually having a tough time finally choosing Knox. There’s a college on the west coast that I really want to attend, one where I could even join the crew team, but it will cost me up to 15K more a year than Knox. Academically it’s about the same, so I’d be paying for location. I just need to get my deposit sent into Knox and not look back!

What are you majoring in, or at least what do you think you want to study? Can’t wait to get the year started.

Alright, I’m scrounging up the money for my deposit now! I finalized my decision for Knox, and will be joining their golf team. Really friendly and helpful coach, I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in September.
