I was just wondering if anyone on here has already made the decision not to go to Penn even if they’re admitted. If so, where are you going and why would you pass up Penn? That’s the case for me; a free ride to UNC-CH is too hard to pass up.

Lets see if we can boost the morale of some of the anxious RD applicants.

i definitely don't want to go to penn and would rather go to ucla (which i am already accepted to) but my parents would rather see me in penn because of its ivy league status and its proximity to home (i live in nyc)

"Now who would post that, given that adcoms peruse cc????"

Those who don't use their name or SS number in their CC name. How would an adcom match a CCer w/ an applicant?

Those who use their name or SS# in their CC name but don't care if they don't get into Penn because of the nature of this thread.

i'm choosing mcgill over penn. personally, i feel that penn would not be such a prestigious school if it weren't for wharton and since i only applied to the college of arts and science and i wanna go into medicine, i felt that mcgill had more to offer that penn.

That's the eternal question...how prestigious is a non-Wharton degree from Penn...? I would be entering Penn to complete my BA in Economics from the SAS. I have read that Penn has a very, highly-acclaimed Economics department. Anyone else applied to Penn as a non-Wharton student? What is your major (if decided) and how do you feel about Penn vs. other schools you have applied to?

Uh, wow guys.. if my post seemed random, it's because I meant to post it in an entirely different forum (I believe the Carleton forum has a thread similar to this one). Whoops!

What about electrical engineering from Penn SEAS? Cause if I got in and decided to attend, that's where I'd end up. Is that well regarded, do you guys think?

Degrees from any of the four schools at Penn will be respected. Granted, some departments are stronger than others (ie: history, economics, pre-med, pre-law over the slavic language department, etc etc), but almost all departments are going to be their weight in gold. Penn isn't just Wharton and not everyone majors in Wharton. The school's selectivity and reputation isn't based solely on Wharton.
