Anyone doing undergrad research ops or internships?

I'm looking to transfer here, and one of my most important points is the possibility of doing undergrad research, or at least an internship. Especially if you're a humanities major, has anyone done research before? How easy is it to ask your professors to take part? And are the ops limited to the professor's current research, or is it possible to propose a topic of your own?

If that's not possible, does Clark allow independent study projects (either experiments, or literature review courses?) And I've also been looking into the Urban Development internship. If anyone has done that, I'd like to hear what that's about. I'd appreciate anyone providing input -- thanks!

I don’t know about humanities, but the summer after my freshmen year I started working in a physics lab for a professor. I got paid.

I know of a bunch of people doing stuff in the physics, math/cs, bio, and chem departments.

As for an internship. My roommate last year did an internship for credit. He tutored African kids at a local school. He is a psych major, and a sociology and spanish double minor.

It its pretty easy to get involved in research in my experience. You just ask a professor. If they don’t have money to pay you, you can offer to volunteer. Thats one of my friends in the chem department is doing.

Independent study is also possible.
