Anyone else gearing up to apply for 2020-21?

@gmfalv He’s been getting mail from Adelphi from his application which he submitted last month, including notification that they haven’t yet gotten his transcripts which were sent a couple of weeks ago, and they’ve some other info about financials, but it’s all come via postal mail. The other schools that he’s heard from after the audition that referenced his audition were: Rowan, University of Roehampton, and UMass-Amherst. (I feel like there was another but I can’t remember.)

@ka44an yes we’ve gotten the same mail from Adelphi too. Hopefully he received good news!

@ka44an If you don’t mind me asking…How many male dancers did your son audition with? And what were some of the responses he received from the schools? Lastly, what is his experience level? I only ask because my son hasn’t been at it very long but is all in.

There were very few male dancers at Dancewave. My daughter’s group of 30 auditioned had only one.

@threegirlpileup Did your daughter happen to mention if the one boy stood out? I know it’s hard to judge because they have their own thing going on but I am nervous about what to expect when it comes to male dancers in this setting. As I’m sure everyone is here! But I hear that most of your Dancers have been dancing since the age of some as young as 3-4 years old. So for my DS who has been dancing for such a short period of time kinda loosing my hair over here!

Welcome to my world- I’m totally going grey over here! My D has only been dancing a short while- she just started her third year, actually, and I’m starting to realize she won’t be accepted anywhere that auditions. It seems to be easier for boys to start late because they’re a scarce and needed commodity at these schools. I’m certain your son will be fine. ?

My daughter said the same thing, very few boys. In her audition there was only one. She didn’t say he stood out other than being the only male.

My D said there was one boy who stood out- she has seen him at competitions before. Other than that I don’t think she mentioned anything else though- there were not many boys at all. So that may work to your DS’s favor

Just got our email informing my D she passed pre-screen for Pace and they are calling her back for an audition on November 16!! Yay! Anyone else get a callback for this date?

@NevrMynd51, there were 4 boys in his group and more in the group that went after him. So maybe roughly 4 out of 30. My experience as the mom of a male dancer is that sometimes gender works for you, sometimes it works against you, and sometimes it has no effect. It’s not something you can really predict. There are not a ton of boys usually, but a lot of the boys who have pushed through the social and cultural obstacles to get this far, are pretty amazing dancers, and then there are also a lot of boys who didn’t have access or desire to dance until later. In everything we’ve seen, there seem to be boys in both of those types of groups, so wherever your son is, he probably won’t be alone in his timeline. I don’t know if there is really any male dancer advantage for auditions for most colleges, you still need the technique, and while there are fewer boys in auditions they also accept fewer boys in dance. In general, though, boys do not have to work as hard as girls to get noticed in that kind of setting, especially in some of those auditions that can get very large. Good luck to him!

@gmfalv At Dancewave he auditioned for The Ohio State, Adelphi, and LIU-Post. He has heard back from The Ohio State, as well as from some schools that he hadn’t applied to. [/quote

@ka44an Had your son already applied academically to The Ohio State? Just curious since my dd also auditioned for them at Dancewave and hasn’t heard anything.

Well guess I need to amend my last post. Lol! We have been on a cruise and just got off. I have a voice mail from Sunday from The Ohio State. He says her audition was wonderful, and she seems like a potential good fit for the department. He wants to talk to her to make sure her goals align with the department’s.

Does anyone have information about the program at The Ohio State?

Definitely go to OSU and visit and watch the dance classes.

@elmom25 Glad you got the email! Yay!

My son had applied to The Ohio State prior to the college fair, but I don’t think my son made that clear when he talked to them at the dance fair. After receiving his letter, he contacted them to give them his student id from his application and they got it all linked up.

@emilyhuntnelson, how was the Elon audition? We have toured the school (which D loved) but have not talked to the dance dept yet, but it is on the list of schools she is interested in.

She loved Elon, she was very impressed with the program and their investment in the students and their futures… she liked that they can study abroad and really liked the facilities… so honestly it just depends on scholarships. It’s very expensive. Next audition is at George Mason November 9th. Exciting about Ohio state, i have heard it is a great program!

My D did the University of Oklahoma audition 10/14. There were 2 different ballet auditions and 1 modern audition. About 35 in each ballet audition and same in the modern one. 2 weeks until results with the ability to ask what needs improvement and audition again if they are not asked into the program the first time. Upcoming she has Butler, Utah, and finishing up prescreen videos for IU and Cincinnati.

Anyone else dong any of those?

Also curious see if anyone is doing UNCSA? I know they won’t audition until Jan, but the Artistic statement and misc other items are in the works at our house. Anyone else? Any insight on this audition or school?

@dancemom2024 My daughter got into Peabody. Her first choices are to be in NYC though we are super proud that she did get into John Hopkins (Peabody)

@mom2020dance Congrats! That is exciting! Such a wonderful school!!!
