For some reason.. at my high school, SAT IIs have NEVER been mentioned. I'm a rising senior and just recently started looking on the internet for college preparation info a few months ago. I've met with my counselor, and still I had no word about these subject tests.

Now, of course I come on here and realize that I'm screwed because you're supposed to take SAT IIs right after finishing the courses, all of which I finished a year or more ago. We've even had huge class meetings for our school about SATs and ACT and everything.. nothing about SAT IIs.

So. For colleges that require like 2 or 3 of the subject tests, what can I do if I'm applying EA? What's the latest test date that they can still get the scores, assuming I do well enough that I even WANT them to see them?

Is anybody else out there like me? Who had no clue about these tests?
I'd heard of them, but had always heard that they were unnecessary and completely optional. When I got a 2300 on the SAT, I figured that they weren't something I needed to take.

And something else.. If I go to a college that doesn't require the SAT IIs for admission, but then transfer in 2 years to a different college that DOES require them, what happens? Can you take SAT subject tests once you're in college? Argggh.
Somebody help me out.

Oh, and the colleges I'm wanting to go to are Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Duke, or Emory, and I'd thought of going to UGA for a year or two. Any info you know about those colleges regarding SATs would be helpful as well :]

For EA, October is fine, sometimes November or even December, you have to check with the school.

Usually if you transfer after 2 years, only your college record is looked at.

Yeah, that December test is one other thing I've worried about, because that's the next time the Latin SAT II is offered. Which is a long time from now.

My school is the exact same way, except if you ask 10 random people what the ACT is, maybe 1 person would know what it is. The counselors at my school do a horrible job at informing their students about standerized tests that matter for college, but they do a great job at informing students of tests that reflect the school's progress (ie. graduation tests) = /

It's absolutely ridiculous that the only reason I found out about the ACT was searching for help on the SAT. At my school -prep for these tests does not exsist at my school- either your amazing at the SAT ( Mid-1200's) and you'll get into a good college, or you stink at it and community college is the place for you.

My school is so ignorant and I thank CC for informing me with all this useful information.

/rant

Haha I feel the same as you do.. our schools are pathetic :[

What is a SAT 2 subject test and ACT?

^ That is how it is with 90% of my grade.

I will speak my mind the next time I have to sit down and speak with my counselor. I mean, I take the hardest classes available in my grade and I would think they would expect a couple of us to attend some top colleges. They're all idiots and I feel bad for all those students who are not going to reach their max potential just because of ignorant counselors. Oh well, less competition...lol I'm horrible.

@rmadden, lol

but I can't talk because although I KNEW what an SAT II was, I didn't know what it was for or anything urlkahweggghhh...

Yeah next time, I'll tell my counselor that they suck, haha.

in a situation like that, you could take some of the self-studyable SAT II's

if you took AP Language or Lit, you could take the Literature SAT II in oct/nov (which is usually the acceptable dates to take SAT II's for EA/ED applicants)

another could be biology..you could easily self study that through barrons or PR

and a third could even be one of the math ones. math I or math II, which could be learned through barrons again, or even PR

that's just my $.02 cents, good luck though! (:

My counselor didn't know what SAT II's were. -_-

"Well [local state school where almost everyone goes, including where she went] didn't require 'SAT II's.'"

Lol glad to know some other people were in the dark as well...

Also, does anybody know if the SAT IIs taken should have anything to do with what you're interested in? Because I'm SOO not interested in Biology, although it's easy, so I don't know why colleges should be impressed if I do well in that subject. I'm more into foreign language, politics, psychology, stuff like that.
Idk, what I'm trying to ask is... should your SATII be something you're actually interested in? or just the stuff you think you'll get the highest score on? or what?

Ah same here!

A lot of the EA and ED schools I have looked at have deadlines of October or November. It's really stressful knowing that I have to take the SATs and 3 subject tests this fall, but at least we all found out about it with enough time to study still!
