This school has a bunch of rich kids that wear lacoste, burberry, north face and every other name brand out their. They are from NE prep schools and NYC and have trust funds that send them money each week. I am not joking. I am leaving this rich preppy place that doesnt cater to middle class people. If you are not very very rich you will have a hard time finding kids like you. Its been 3 months in foggy and i havent found 1 yet. Thats why i be outta here. All OUR LIVES I (WONT) BE PROUD TO SAY, WE HAIL FROM GW, GO BIG BLUE. 55K A YEAR FOR THIS. People, do me a favor and go to a state school if you are in state, you will get a BETTER education for half the damn price.

Damnnnnn!!! But, is it really that bad. Is it the kids or is it the academics??? So, is that the ONLY bad thing about GWU because I'm transferring in for the spring of 2008 JANUARY. SO, please tell me NOW! I need to know EVERYTHING you have to say.

there are quite a few rich preppy people, he does not lie lol. the academics aren't as bad as he is making it sound though. it does depend on what you are studying, but in my experience so far they have been fine. if you can handle lots of kids wearing business suits carrying around brief cases, talking pretentiously and having a huge sense of entitlement then you shouldn't have any problem lol.

Oh my God - it is not that bad. I don't know what pretty little rich girl snubbed him but there are plenty of normal people here. If you get uncomfortable or insecure around people with money there are still plenty of people to hang out with at GW. I'm one of them and there are tons of other people like me.

Who give a crap if they wear suits, ties, or whatever. That's not the point. I'm just glad it's not that bad. BTW: I'm in the Business School. How is that like? Please give me any advice you have. Thx. natedawg, r u in the School of Business?

no, i'm not. and really, i was just kidding about the business suit kids (hence the "lol" at the end. there are some people like that, but its not overwhelming. i've actually met quite a few scholarship kids like myself. from what i've heard though, the business school is good and competitive with other schools.

I am a frosh here and this place is awful. Go to NC and Texas if you are in state for half the darn price!!! The classes here are very very easy!! i am not going to lie, but its very basic here. I am in a tough major too. The social scene here is clubs and bars and if you are not in a frat or sorority, you are stuck since its hard to have a conversation with all these rich privileged kids. I know a few kids on my floor whoe dad's DONATED money on top of 55K to get their little girlies in. $$$$$$$$$$$ is this school and do yourself a flavor and do not accept their offer of admin! If your dad aint a CEO and you aint from a prep school in New England, YOU WILL NOT BE HAPPY HERE. YOU HEARD IT FIRST FROM ME AND WHEN U TRANSFER OUT LIKE ME NEXT YEAR, REMEMBER WHAT THE DOG HAD TO SAY! I AM COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS HERE IN FROGGY. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR BIG TIME SPORTS, LOOK ELSWHERE NOWW. THIS PLACE CARES MORE ABOUT AIDS DAY AND DEMOCATIC RALLIES THAT SPORTS. SAD BUT TRUE.

lol @ "do yourself a flavor"

OMG, I'm truly lauging my but off. Damn, you guys are intense!!!!!!!!!! So, the DOG, is the business school hard or are u just saying ur major is easy. Okay, what I'm looking for is just an overall of a good college experience that I can remember and enjoy those memories. I don't party much and I don't drink. I love meeting new people everyday and I like "REALISTIC" people opposed to FAKE people. I want to meet students that I can be friends with for the rest of my life. What I find enjoyable is walking in the cold, having conversations about life and pretty much anything, and learning from each other. As far as academics go, I don't mind, I just want to get a "good" education and get my degree. Although, I don't just want crappy classes that are POINTLESS. I want a class that adds a point to my learning no matter if it's easy or hard. I probably will enroll at GWU and if the experience does not fit me, I can just transfer out to Georgetown or American. All in all, I want a point in my education, including social life, academics, and internships. To me, GW does not seem that harsh. EVERY school has it's down sides. I hope this clears things out. Please feel free to keep the advices coming. I would appreciate and respect all of your opinions. Thank you!

i think you can get all of that stuff at GWU. it may seem difficult at first because there are a lot of rich people there who really don't seem to do much other than spend money, but they are certainly not everyone and there are people worth meeting if you try hard enough. but overall, i think it has everything you said you wanted in a school. good luck with your app.

Don't believe a word "the dog" says. I don't even think he/she is who they say they are. Probably someone from a competing D.C. university trying to ruin GW's good name. It's absolutely not true that everyone is rich and even if they were, does that mean they're "bad" people. Seems it's a form of prejudice or just plain jealousy to think that there are no worthwhile "rich" people.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR BIG TIME SPORTS, LOOK ELSWHERE NOWW. THIS PLACE CARES MORE ABOUT AIDS DAY AND DEMOCATIC RALLIES THAT SPORTS. Well, you should have known that before you applied, right?

GGG4, I am a freshman, and I love it here. I am in the Honors program, and I work very hard. The classes are challenging and interesting. There are so many interesting choices that it was hard to decide what to take next semester- I always feel like I am missing something great. There is a lot to do here- I joined a sorority, and it has worked out well for me- I recommend becoming involved in lots of activities to meet a lot of people. DC is a very exciting place. Some people on this board have had a problem with GW- who knows why? Maybe it just wasn't for them. I knew the first time I visited that it was the place for me. If you feel that way, trust yourself.

I think researchmaven just hit the nail on the head (post 71) in suggesting that dog may have an agenda. Here are some facts from US News & World Report:
92% student retention rate
Almost 10% of the students receive Pell grants
53% applied for need-based aid (I'm guessing there must be students who may not be the trust fund babies that dog seems to say are 100% of the student body??)
61% of those who applied for financial aid had their need met "fully"
91% - average percent of need met for those who applied for financial aid
$34,000 - average financial aid package

In addition, 18% were awarded merit scholarships of around 25 - 50% of tuition. An additional number were awarded athletic scholarships, but I didnt' copy that.

In addition, if two siblings go to GW, for any year that both are in school at the same time, one of them gets an automatic 50% tuition discount.

And last, as far as the suits go: GW has a lot of interns, so I'm guessing that if anyone wears a suit (oh, pleeze - what college kid chooses to wear a suit??) it's because of some extra curricular activity such as Congressional aid, etc.

I think GW can speak for itself, but I'd sure hate to see someone make a life-long decision based on silly stereotypes - or deliberate misinformation - that some people have posted on this thread.

FWIW, I was at BU and felt the same way as dog.

wuff wuff i am back. 55K a year. RIP OFF. so long froggy and off to austin texas we go. TOO MUCH $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ HERE.

DOG23, I know ur EXTREME hatred towards ur GWU. However, if it was not that expensive, I bet you would stay there and love it! So, u cant just say it SUCKS because its expensive...WHAT A STUPID REASON! And, who gives a crap about the people there and nothing to do! Your paying for your degree, not to discover if there is anything to do. The key word is your "DEGREE," Okay? So, dont hate GWU! Did you apply for financaial aid??? Did they give u a good amount? If u dont mind, can u post how much if you want?

LOL at dog - what idiot chose to go to GW for the sports? We don't even have a football team. Sounds like someone reeeally didn't research their school choices. What did he expect? "wuff, wuff" - total troll :)

Sorry if this comes off as rude, but all the parents snarkily defending GW on this thread are driving me insane. You have no idea what it's like to be a student at GW, and therefore have fairly little authority to tell people that they are out of line for wanting to switch out.

You, parents, need to stop interpreting certain students' dislike of GW as a personal attack on your children. It is no such thing, and again, you are in no position to retort.

As a transfer student (now at an LAC in New York) whose first choice was GW going into college, I can definitely sympathize with those who often find GW lacking academically, socially, and even environmentally.

The "party" does not exist at GW; "going out" consists of going to a club or a bar, and if that's not what you're into, and if you're not involved with greek life, then your social life is vastly compromised. I don't mention this first because I am a huge partier (just the opposite, actually); I just mean to testify to the fact that social opportunities at this school are limited.

Academically...I don't even know where to start. All I can say is that for $52K a year, I would expect to be stimulated, challenged, and to receive a stellar education that would prepare me for my future. If I had stayed at GW, I would have graduated with honors but felt totally and completely lost.

Finally, to all of you that say DC is the activity hub of the universe: try being an underage college student here. You will quickly realize that this is inaccurate. You cannot go to a museum at night, and going to the monuments gets old after the first 10 times or so. Yes, during the day there is a lot to do. I agree. But in terms of "stuff to do" on weekend nights, there is practically nothing.

I have been quietly reading this thread since it started, but it has gone too far. If someone wants to transfer out of a school for a logical reason (even if it IS to transfer to a "better" school!), no one has the right to criticize. How do fresh and negative remarks add to this discussion? Please let's try to be mature.

^^^^ A+ for you

"u cant just say it SUCKS because its expensive...WHAT A STUPID REASON!"
wow. actually if you knew that a school's cost was having a negative effect on your financial solvency, i would think that financials would put a huge damper on your experiences and view of a school, especially if you start to believe that the sacrifice is no longer worth it. and do you really "pay" for your degree at GWU? I would like to think that at most schools you earn it.
