Anyone else waiting over two months now?

i think i just got accepted today!!! bc i just got an email from Penn State Housing & Food Service Contract Information congratulating me on my acceptance while my status has been updated to a previous status I’ve had but it doesn’t say congratulations so maybe they’ll just update in these coming days

We feel the same, even browsing this site is difficult as my daughter checks her application status every morning with the same result. It must be especially difficult if alot of people from your high school applied and have heard back already.

That’s why I decided to post the info from admissions, it helps to know the facts rather than filling in the blanks and make assumptions that only fuel the anxiety. Nothing is going to change the result and although it’s much easier to give advice the truth is stressing out isn’t going to change a thing. Hang in there . . …

Mine doesn’t say that my required materials and/or application is complete. It says that my application and high school transcript have been received and are under review. Should I be worried about missing information?

Are students sorted according to the schools they apply to? I applied to University Park in late Nov but haven’t heard from them yet. Perhaps that’s the school with the most applicants?

If you applied education they are waiting a little bit. I applied November 2th and heard on November 14th. I have no idea why some of you have not heard yet. My SATs were 1860 with a 700 math 580 reading. My class rank though is 10 out of 309 with a 4.000+ GPA

For people wondering I got accepted to the College of Education under World Languages.
SAT: 1520/2400
GPA: 3.6
Rank: 5/167

I think my enormous amount of extra curriculars and that I’m taking three AP Courses this year and got Straight A’s in AP Biology and have passed all of my AP tests show I’m a promising candidate.

Also, my major is not highly sought after.

I am out of state, Delaware.

i applied october 7th and i am STILL waiting!!! roikldmfv,df

My daughter applied late October and has not heard a word; her best friend applied late November (literally seconds before the 11/30 deadline) and was accepted within a week.

They are both about the same in ecs/leadership and SATS are almost identical (1900ish). The biggest difference is that my daughter’s GPA is lower (3.7 weighted) than her friend who is probably about 4.0+ weighted. However, my daughter’s courseload has consistently been more rigorous (more honors and AP courses).

Does Penn State consider rigor of courseload or are they strictly looking at numbers?

My daughter did not do an Admissions visit, although, she has been on the campus and I know that her friend visited the campus. Is demonstrated interest considered?

I can’t believe PSU’s admissions process is random/rolling… there must be some logic behind the timing.

Sorry to hear your daughter is still waiting-my daughter applied the same time and hasn’t heard anything as well. In earlier posts I shared that I had called admissions a couple times and each time was told that decisions are more random than I guess rolling since files aren’t evaluated in any particular order. Admissions also assured me that the timing doesn’t mean anything, just because my daughter hasn’t heard yet doesn’t mean she’s not going to get in. Kids may hear in Dec as well as Jan. If that’s accurate then I think admissions would do everyone a great service by stating that from the start instead of leaving things open to interpretations. No need to fuel more anxiety into a process that is already pretty stressful!

NYmom,

I did read your post and thank you for sharing that info. If their system isn’t truly rolling, it would probably be better if they holdoff all decisions until a set date. To accept a student that barely makes the deadline before another who got their act together over a month before does not send a very good message to me… AND it sounds like there are many other students who applied before my daughter who have not received a decision.

I agree 100% with you, my daughter worked very hard to get everything out early and we were told during the orientation that admissions are rolling and that the sooner students apply the sooner they hear. It was stressed multiple times so my daughter did everything she could on her end. Maryland lets everyone know on a specific date so we are not checking and rechecking the site everyday.

This is last yrs acceptance thread.

If I remember correctly high stat kids got their acceptances early and the others came in often by college they were applying. Education seemed to be one of the last. Anyway look through the thread for hints on how it went last yr.

Good luck to all. S is finishing up his four yrs at PSU and will have nothing but great memories of his last 4 yrs. He turned down many higher rated schools for life in Happy Valley and never, ever thought he made the wrong choice.

link doesn’t work. let me try again.

Thanks Newyorkmom22, my daughter applied early to mid Oct and still has not heard. Her friend, who she has helped over the last 4 years with lit, just got in-they are going for the same major I believe, which has to do with lit!. Her friend’s grades were significantly lower, both weighted and unweighted, but her SAT’s were about 75 points higher with much fewer extras. My daughter is convinced SATs mean everything and that she could have slacked for the last for years and got in as long as she did better on the test! So, I am having her read your post! Thanks!!!

Glad I could be of some help-I’ve spoken to admissions twice over the last month and have always gotten the same answer. It’s so easy to interpret things in a negative fashion that I contacted them not only for my daughter but for myself as well. I can understand your daughter’s frustrations but I do believe that it’s just a system that’s somewhat chaotic and do not think that the stronger candidates are admitted sooner. This is a theory on many of the sites and in some cases maybe true but do not feel it is the case for Penn State. Of course doesn’t make the waiting that much easier. Hopefully our daughters will find out soon . …

For a school like Penn St., which probably gets more applications that 95% of the colleges in this country, using the objective SAT scores as the main / sole factor for admission is feasible. It would certainly make life easier for the folks in the admissions office. Then again, if such scores are the “sole” factor, you would think that they would issue decisions with greater alacrity.

Folks, PSU uses your GPA as 2/3 of their decision.

Sax, yep it says so right on its web site! Most of us know that! That’s why many comment the way they do with regard to SATs vs. grades in terms of timing of admission responses when comparing to peer credentials and submission dates of applications, especially if its rolling. Thus, MBJ’s comment questions the 2/3 weight of grading vs. SATs when it appears from the timeliness of admission responses that SATs are more “feasible” for them to deal with - But, I believe your comment is a friendly reminder for all of us who do hope they take GPA as 2/3 of the decision.

i applied sept 22 and was finally accepted dec 9 :)

congrats Loba92! you’d been waiting for a while…

yes it’s such a huge relief lol i can breathe now but it’s not sinking in yet bc im still doing my homework haha
