Anyone else waiting over two months now?

My daughter still has not heard from PSU (she applied late October) and after watching several friends get accepted with a much faster turnaround, she was feeling demoralized and pessimistic over her chances at her other schools since they all have a more competitive admissions process than PSU BUT this weekend she was accepted to her top choice school (a “reach” for her!). So please don’t use read more in to a slow turnaround from Penn State like she did.

i applied late september and am still waiting…i am scared that since i have been waiting so long it means i am going to get rejected or accepted into a different campus. People who applied much later than me have heard within a month with not much greater stats then me. i called penn state last week adn they said my application hasnt even been reviewed yet, which made me feel better since i wasnt reviewed and then tossed to the side. i applied to the school of education with a 1230/1600 1810/2400 and a weighted average of a 93.2…i checked off i would do summer but really hope i am accepted for the fall, it is my first choice.

I feel your pain. I applied early october with a 1360/1600 and my school uses a weird gpa scale so im prob around a 3.3 right now. i applied for summer and would be perfectly happy going early if it meant being at UP. I just wish they would let those of us who applied early know before they notify those who applied later. Its been over two months now and its just killing me not knowing if i’m gonna get in or not

I’ve posted before so I’m sorry if I’m repeating myself but my daughter has also been waiting and waiting, her file was complete around Oct. 20 so it’s been awhile. I also contacted admissions last week and first they confirmed that everything was there but hadn’t been reviewed yet. Second that the majority of kids haven’t been notified and it is not unusual to receive a decision in Dec. or Jan. (by the 30th). Files are not reviewed in the order they were received so if you haven’t heard anything it doesn’t mean that you aren’t going to be accepted. Hope that eases some anxiety a bit. If anyone else has any info it would be helpful as well, thanks!!

If it’s not first come, first serve, then how is the order determined??

That’s a very good question and the woman in admissions didn’t elaborate-she just stated that the reviews weren’t conducted on a first come basis. All very confusing and I think I’m going to stop trying to figure it out and try to refocus my attention on things I can control.

I know it’s frustrating. We also waited a very long time. And when I called admissions - I go the same answer.

I applied september 29th and still haven’t heard anything. They said they look and accept in a completly random order which i guess makes me feel a little better but I’m soo nervous! I love penn state so i really hope i get in.

SO far the pattern i have noticed the past three years is this.

If you apply before November 1st and have 1800 and GPA about 3.8 you hear back before December and your in to main campus. If you have below 1600 and below 3.6 You heard back and its Altoona for ya.

If you applied before November 1st and have not heard anything yet, thats is GOOD. They are holding you to see whether or not you will be in summer session or not, or if they get a lot more applications of better students they might have to cut the people they are waiting…

Wow, I love this glass half-full approach. Are the GPA’s you are using in your example weighted or unweighted?

^^The explain this…D applied in mid-September (all req’d items sent/received). Her SAT is 1940, wgpa 4.1; but she still has not heard anything. We’re guessing that it’s because she applied to Nursing and they haven’t made those decisions yet. I haven’t seen a nursing student accepted yet for this year.

I have a 3.8 and a 27 which is like a 1820 and my friend had a 3.7 and a 28 she got in about three weeks ago and we applied on the same day, I just want to know already it’s sooo hard to wait!!

I would hope that no one listens to “imafailure69.” They have no idea what they are talking about. To say that if you haven’t been accepted yet that Penn State is merely evaluating you for summer session is just plain wrong and stupid to say. Then again, what can you expect from someone who uses “no” for “know” and “ya” for “yeah.” I wish people would think before they posted.

Do you have any insight for us?

We live in CT and our high school had about 25 kids apply to Penn State. No one has heard yet. This obviously means that they just haven’t gotten to this batch of kids…I doubt that all 25 kids have similar stats.

I agree, everyone needs to think about what they’re posting and only post something as a fact if you know for sure that it is one. Of course all of us want to fill in the blanks and try to understand how and why decisions are made which is obviously really frustrating. There just has to be a better system then the one that’s currently in place. That’s just my opinion.

^^ Seriously?

Just ignore him and maybe he’ll go away.

ugh stilll waiting lol…if i applied late september and checked off that i would consider summer session do u think i will be getting that and not fall admission since its taking this long?

golddog, no, absolutely not
