Anyone feeling bad for their parents?

KelliC03- well it’s not that bad since I get the veterans tuition fee waiver because of my dad. So I’m just covering books and transportation to Berkeley.

@hellostranger, Johnny, & ixr : haha, I’m half Filipina =] but my mom’s not giving me anything =/ My mom’s really angry that I’m not gonna go to Berkeley (not the reason she’s not giving me any $, she’s just broke), but I think it’s fine to save it for graduate school.

My dad and I have been saving for my college for my entire life and he was expecting to pay it…but since I’m not going to University until I’m 24, I just filled out the FAFSA for myself and didn’t have to count his stuff. Considering I barely had a job during CC because I am (was? :frowning: ) living with my BF I didn’t need a whole lot of income.

So I guess I lucked out.

PS: does anyone know if the Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship is financial aid? Or if I get financial aid on top of that? I filled out FAFSA late if that matters. I got the Pell grant but not the Cal grant or anything else.

yeah for once in my life i am glad to say that being poor is awesome.

hey we live in the land of the opportunity! USA USA USA!!!
hahaha j/k everyone who knows me knows i would never chant USA to save my life.

but hell yeah being poor has its advantages.
a lot of disadvantages but those will be fixed soon.

now if i have kids imma have to pay for all their shiz.
i think i will encourage them to go to CCC.
hahahahaha

i think i’ll just sell all my assets and buy a huge expensive house on expensive land, thus hiding all my money in home equity, and then try to get layed (laid?) off as a favor, kids could get financial aid and i could live off of unemployment benefits hahaha

I feel bad too…
I will work my hardest to pay them back :)

im poor too

My parents have their own small business and they are paying for my college tuition. The business is doing well on the count of I’m helping run it LOL…and yes THAT is the business I helped grow 30% in terms of profit. The catch is that I am their retirement settlement (I am their source of income when they grow old)…I come from a pretty traditional Indian family so this type of thing is very common. I would gladly support them financially through their old age as they have done so much for me already.

^i’m indian too and i was also going to be my parents’ retirement plan! haha, but they decided i was too unreliable and they were better off saving money instead lol

^
damn lomkh…nice to see an Indian brotha on here lol…I guess it balances out in the end…your parents will be able to support themselves while you have to pay your loans…I’ll have to support my parents and not have to pay loans. :)

yeah lol, though i’ll probably end up supporting them anyways, even if they don’t really need it…it is tradition haha, they’d be the first to ever live on their own if that wasn’t the case, and they’re already complaining about how things are going to be when i’m gone at university lol

you’re a girl right…? use the “i’m paying for my education” line and go be a stripper.

I could never ask my mom to pay for my college! I’m totally cool with taking out whatever loans I might need. My education is an investment! One day I’ll look back on what today seems like a lot of money and realize it’s nothing! =]
