So, today I learned that some UC's won't accept my chemistry or biology series if I don't finish the whole series at one school only. I took chemistry 1A and biology 6A at De Anza. I am now taking chem 1B and biol 1A (equivalent to biol 1B at De Anza) at Foothill. Has anyone done that and got away with it? Does anyone know if it is allowed or not?

I dont see why they wont allow this I thought foothill/De Anza where the same..thats weird, i think you should be fine but just double check...

Hi m3pwr,
Oops I meant biology 1A at Foothill is biology 6B at De Anza. They are all in the same series. I tried to talk to the counselors at Foothill and one of them said it is noted on Assist that Cal doesn't allow it, but I checked it on Assist (biological chemistry), and nothing really said that. The other counselor said most UC's won't accept it. I am very confused. already emailed UC's but didn't get a response yet.

"Each university campus reviews community college courses for
articulation., and each college course is reviewed individually. You
can't assume that similar courses (even courses from colleges in the
same district) will automatically be accepted in the same way.

You will need to talk directly to an advisor at UC Berkeley."

^ that's the response I got when I made a similar inquiry to ASSIST for a different course

Yeah I believe you need to check with the school to see if it will satisfy the requirement

I got this response from the transfer coordinator of Cal after I sent her an email with the same question.

" In general, it's best to take an entire series at one college, but
since
DeAnza and Foothill are affiliated, it won't be a problem to mix and
match."

I am still waiting for reps from other UC's to respond. Maybe I am being too anal..lol... I should just take her words for it since it's directly from the source, but she gave me a general answer even though I specifically asked about chemistry and biology.

I'm a footy student and I take De Anza classes all the time so I can get around the 20 cred restriction. It always works out as long its the same class.

hey i go to foothill too. you know this guy steve? he's a douche. lol

i wonder if i have seen you ppl and have no idea that we chat on CC

I check CC at De Anza from the computer lab in the science center, so if you see a guy with a UCLA cap there, hOlla!

Hi, I attend both De Anza and foothill college. I also have same question as you (abruinwannabe). I am taking bio 6a at de anza right now (2009 fall) and 2010 Winter quarter registration is in few days but bio 6b class ALREADY filled up. So there isn’t any room for bio 6b right now. i only have slim chance to get Bio 6b at de anza. I am thinking of signing up for Foothill Bio 1a (equivalent to Bio 6B at De Anza). I am wondering if UC admissions care about switching the series between school. Btw i also took chem 1a at de anza and chem 1b at foothill. I hope UC admissions people dont reject me cuz of switching colleges. let me know if anyone have found any new information. Thank you!

p.s. I am trying to apply to UCSD. UC application is due in 7 days!!! so stressed.

hey! I did exactly the same thing as you guys!

Last year I took chem 1a at de anza and it was the worst *ing experience of my life. De anza chemistry is *. Then I took chem 1b at foothill and started to love chemistry. I’m taking ochem now with such a great prof at foothill.

For bio, I started with bio 1a at foothill and finished 1c there too. The thing is, Bio 1b at foothill is the same course as bio 6a at de anza. and bio 1a at foothill is bio 6b at de anza. If you look on assist.org, you can read the course titles. This is where it gets conflicting. You should call the Cal counselors or wherever and ask them about it.

My friend did the same thing as me and she transfered to ucsd this fall. So I know this whole foothill/de Anza thing works.

I go to De Anza and I rule. 4.0 and amazing ECs. I wont tell you guys who I am until I get into Bezerkeley!

P.S. De Anza is a great ccc except there are too many FOBs! No racial. Don’t international students who want to transfer to UCs not have priority over Cali residents?

^ whats your major?

thank you very much guitarfrk123. I hope I can switch bio series between de anza and foothill. i guess i need to take bio 1a (same as bio 6b at da) at foothill. yeah… i should call their school advisers/counselors and ask to double check. thanks again.

hey guitarfrk! what teachers do you recommend for bio @ foothill?

@ krnrice, I go to deanza too! I dropped my bio6A class last week because I absolutely hated the class bc I was falling behind miserably and my teacher was super boring. Who are you taking??

sophie,
Stay away from karen erickson for bio 1a. Shes a great teacher, but her exams are very hard. My high school bio program won best bio program in the nation and I still found ericksons class to be pretty challenging!

Take branagan for 1b. Shes a good teacher and shes really easy.

I took Schultz for 1c. Shes an okay teacher and is okay with grading.

@ sophie24 , sorry i never came back to this website after i asked those questions. I had Elizabeth McPartlan for both lecture and lab. I wanted to drop the class but i had to finish the bio series for transfer. I did finish the class with unsatisfying grade but w/e.

@guitarfrk123, hey guess what! i have Karen Erickson for bio 1a lecture at foothill. now i am scared cuz i have midterm #1 on thrusday this week. wish me luck :)

Anyone want to start a College Confidential Club at De Anza? I will do all the paperwork and ICC crap to get it started. We can have fun, officer positions for the majority of members?

haha, sure, i’d join a club like that…free officer positions lol, hopefully i can fit it into my schedule…>_>
