Hi,

anyone from New Hampshire who is a student at James Madison University?

My son will be a freshman this fall. What town are you from? There is also a girl from his class who will be attending.

I'm in Nashua and entering my junior year and read have many great things about James Madison, and what was the difficultly of being admitted to JMU. I currently have an overall B+ average and am taking the SAT in the fall, and what is your son's major?

I am a professor at JMU who is from NH, and still works in NH during the summer. In general the average GPA for admitted JMU students is a 3.6 with a rigorous course load including APs, Dual Enrollment, and/ or IB courses. JMU seems to look strongly at your grades in CORE courses -- English, Math, Science, History, Language.

Feel free to contact me with any other questions.

My son had a B average (he is your classic under acheiver). He had strong SAT's and EC. He thought he would have no chance because of his GPA. The fact that he is a male from NH must have helped. My son is interested in Marketing and Psychology. The other students that were accepted from his school were girls with an A averages. As far as we know he was the only male to apply this year. If you are a male, I would say you have a good chance being accepted.

Thank you for all of your responses. I look forward to learning more about James Madison University.

Yeah -- a 3.6 average must mean that there are students below 3.6 as well as above :)... I think that JMU also does look at ECs, recs., essays, etc.. and put all of that into the package.

KatMT, what do you teach at JMU?

I coordinate the Musical Theatre Concentration in the School of Theatre and Dance.
