i got 21K total, 16K coming from UMich grant, w/o loans

offered is w/ loans, while accepted is w/o loans

I got 15000 is grants/work study, 7000 in loans.....that leaves about 18000 that I need to pay. My efc was only 1,300.

Anyone know if we can appeal our aid packages? If I could get an extra thousand or two, that would make a huge difference.

my efc was 3100

On wolverine access under award notices it says "no award notices found." Under financial aid summary under aid year it has "2008" as a link, but when I click it it doesn't take me anywhere. What does this mean? I filled out and submitted the CSS Profile back in the fall, and I filled out the FAFSA as soon as it was available, with estimations, of course. Is there anything else I need(ed) to do. Are you guys saying that need-based aid is already gone? This process is so confusing to me :S

does Michigan give grants in addition to merit scholarships? or is one or the other? If i got one of the Michigan Scholar Awards for LSA would it mean I will not receive any additional grants?

The Michigan Scholar Award is based on non-need factors -- merit, diversity, etc. Other financial aid that includes grants is based on need, so one has to apply for it, and prove to be in need. I would imagine that if you have done that you may be eligible for other grants, but they would calculate your need based on already getting the merit award.

annarborchick, it just means that your aid package isn't ready yet and you have to wait longer. That happened to me before I finally got to see my award. Make sure you send in your parents' signed tax return.

thanks, odin64x

does anyone know how much the estimate and actual award differs, about?

'cause i like my estimate =(

does the financial aid thing include scholarships or strictly need based stuff?

really crappy money package from u mich...

6K per year, made up of loans and work study

for 34K per, i guess i wont be going to michigan

i'm the same as you, seohee...i like my estimated award...wanna know if it will translate that well into reality

For some reason I got an email today saying they had changed my financial aid package. And well..., they reduced by package by 2K in grants. As if the first financial aid package wasn't bad enough.

yeah, my work study got reduced $750 because they added in the $1000 "michigan promise" scholarship that you get for doing ok on the meap test. It's still my best value though.

I checked my financial aid package again today and I got some more money!

Did they email you saying your package had changed? Or did you appeal or anything?

Got my financial aid package today. It's pretty sweet. I was just wondering if anyone else's Michigan Competitive Scholarship is showing up though. I know I qualify for it, because I got a letter in the mail, but it's not included. Anyone?

It just changed by itself...I did not appeal or anything.
