Anyone get into Stern who just chills, tokes, and parties without a bunch of EC's and

I got a 1520 on the SAT and got a 3.7 GPA wit a few EC's and a part time job. I'm also Latino (Dominican) from Somerville, Ma. But i also chill hardcore and drink/smoke on weekends, will I fit in wit other Stern kids if i get accepted?

i don’t know a Sternie who didn’t have a ton of ECs when they applied to Stern, but i know a lot of Sternies who drink and party a lot on weekends. it’s kind of like stress relief, i suppose.

I’m going to Stern next year and am pretty similar. I don’t know about the hardcore chilling, but yes to everything else.

You will probably get dominated lol.

Stern is very cutthroat. Some students at Stern ( I am not generalizing, hence “some”) are condescending toward students in other schools. I have never met a Stern student who didn’t say he was just from “NYU.” They always say NYU Stern, or just Stern, because I guess there is some ideology that just going to NYU is not enough to consider themselves successful. In my opinion, many undergraduate business schools are like that too. Wharton, Ross, etc. I think being “chill” isn’t a dominate trait regarding most students at Stern, especially when they are fighting to get an “A” in a class where only 25% are given out because of the infamous stern curve. It used to be even worse before! When my cousin when to Stern in the 90’s, only about 10% of the class was given A’s. That sounds A LOT better than it actually is. If you have a class with 30 students and a 10% “A” curve, that means only three students get an “A”. Make sure you leave your type B personality at the door if you decide to check in at Stern lol. However, this does not mean that you should not go, I am just giving you a fair warning, not diatribe.

i meet a lot of Stern guys at bars around campus. i still think that it’s a “work hard, play hard” mentality kind of thing. once, at a bar near Union Square, i met a bunch of Stern guys playing beer pong against a bunch of guys from Wharton, hahahahaha. it was early friday morning.

lol at ^, I hope Stern gets rid of the curve. So many more students would matriculate to Stern if they didn’t have a vexatious curve!
