Trying to remember when/how they did this last year...

I can imagine the sort of tours you would give to prospective freshman...

p.s. go back to china

They mentioned it in the likely letter I received but there were few details and I'm not sure about it. What's your opinion?

I heard from a tour guide here that these invites are given to the top 200 or so applicants to the university. He joked that these kids were the "all-around ballers" that the university is trying to recruit. Haha I thought it was funny and I couldn't remember when or if I had seen that last year... I think I did via a letter or e-mail from the uni. So if you've been given a personal password to a message board area on the UNC website, I'd say that's the thing he was referring to and you're in good shape! Have they started the invites for the merit scholarship weekend yet?

PS. annn i love uuuu!

From helicopter mom:
The likely letter mentioned the address to find the message boards, but it looks as if once you're there, you set up your own login.

Great idea.

PS: Getouttabuffalo: Does annn really like you or hate you? I can't read irony on the internet, especially since I'm a mom....

Yeah. I'm an Admissions Ambassador and this is sort of a new thing. I think last year maybe they did it for three students. On the current student side of things, as Ambassadors we check out the website, see if any prospies are interested in what we are, and then get in touch with them, then they stay with us. Actually the whole staying over night thing isn't required. So maybe this is a different idea. But the forum is still in what I'm describing.

Hmm. Well. Visit as much as you can, and by all means, take Chapel Hill up on these opportunities! I know if I host anybody we're gonna have some fun. I'll take them to YoPo and make them ride the P2P. Yay!

Whats the yopo? Eeek!

YoPo is the yogurt pump. It's cheap frozen yogurt on Franklin and it is absolutely fantastic. Mm. I miss it.

ah, yopo..open even in the depths of winter :)

haha annn really does love me :-D and "cloying", you're an admissions ambassador? very cool! how do u like it so far?

I received one of the letters as well, and have been trying to figure out when it would be best to visit for the day -- I have been up on campus numerous times before, seeing friends and whatnot, but have yet to make an "official" visit.

With mention of the Yogurt Pump, though, that is quite the incentive to sign up for a visit.

Yeah, the likely letters give a link to a message board and talk about "a day in the life of a current Carolina student." Then on the message board, you can post your info and when you want to come, and I guess as long as you post two weeks in advance, a student will offer to host you at UNC for your chosen day. How exciting! But seeing as I'm pretty decided on Carolina, I don't really neeeed to do this. :] If I get back down to Carolina some time this school year, though, I am so there.

Oh my goodness it's so much fun. I start giving tours in March but I can go ahead and start doing panels, chats, and other things in January. It's neat hearing stories about some of the essays people've written and what it's like to call people after they're accepted. You should go out for it this Spring or next Fall or whenever! DO IT!

PS - avantgarden, you should totally do a day in the life anyway. Even after I knew I'd go to UNC last year, I loved visiting every chance I got. It just solidified my want to go here, helped calm me down, and made me look forward to the next year. It also helped me understand a little bit more exactly what would be expected of me here / the day to day life of being a college student. There are a lot of things you wouldn't expect. Like couches. There just aren't many comfy couches in college. Enjoy your couches while you still can! :)

Haha "GetOuttaBuffalo" I got one of those letters back in the day and didn't even get offered any scholarship, so I don't know about that.

I was so pumped when you got your likely letter!! Gah Carolina cleans up with those things.
