I'm not in a state where the ACT is given in September? is it worth to drive to Illinois to take it? I'm planning on visitng UChicago and Northwestern while I'm at it. I'm applying ED to Duke, so I'd think it's best to get the results ASAP.

I'm like 4 hours from Philly and I think that's probably the closest, I don't really remember... and I have family near there... but I'll probably just wait until October, I don't know, not sure about ED/RD yet. It seems so silly, but I guess it isn't that bad to get another shot at the test.

I thought about doing it last year for my d. So from a Mom's point of view, I do not think it is too crazy an idea. D decided to take it in NY only in Oct. and everything worked out ok. But if the OOS testing site is not too far away and you have family- or as OP may be in state to look at colleges- It is not the craziest thought. But just remember, you do not know the location of the High school or may not be familiar with the area- so you do not want to add undue stress to the situation. If you have family in the area who can direct you to the appropriate testing center, it might be worth a shot to take the test in Sept and Oct.

I am from CT and will be driving to Pennsylvania to take the test. Its only about a 3.5 hour drive and I will be visited Lehigh and possibly Penn State.

There are probably some schools I want to look at in Pennsylvania, but that'll be right when school starts so I'm thinking it'll be hard to kill a weekend doing that when I'll probably have work to do.

Does anyone know what high schools in Pennsylvania are closest to New York? Thanks.

Not every high school is a test center, and not all test centers are open on every test date. There are also many test centers that are not high schools.

When registration opens for September, you can see a list online of all the open test centers in New York. They don't have a test center map or anything, but they do have a process by which they assign you to a test center based on your zip code if you don't supply test center choices or all your choices are closed or full, but that might only work within a certain radius, like 50 or 100 miles or something.

They might be able to help you if you call them.

Schools aren't filling up yet. The Sept. ACT is not offered in most states. PA is the nearest state to the Northeast, but not every PA site offers the Sept. test. The ACT website lists where and when the test it is offered in 2006-2007. (Cities alphabetically within each state) You might need to get out an atlas to see what is closest to you!
