Anyone got a diffyQ class they'd like to drop...

LOL. D's looking for a diffyQ class in periods 4 or 6 for spring semester. Everything's closed, except period 10, which she selected to just get into a class. Who would put a diffq class at 5pm on a Friday? Yuck!

Actually. Seriously. If she's not able to switch sections during drop/add, has anyone had experience just showing up at a class and trying to get an over-ride from a prof? Or is it best to approach the teacher prior to the class starting?

If she keeps checking often, she’ll eventually find an open spot in an earlier period. People change around their schedules all the time, and spots open frequently.

10th period calc really wasn’t that bad prior to turning the clocks back. I mean, it’s not like it was even dark at that point (it is now though). And it’s not like you’re going out anywhere at 5pm.

A spot will open up during drop-add. Your daughter will need to be patient. Plus, it could get a lot worse. I once had a lab from 7-10pm.

It’s not the 5pm time, particularly, except for on Fridays. Sometimes she drives home for the weekend, and that makes her much later. And she’s not a class skipper, especially a math class that tends to give quizes/tests on Friday. Yeah, we’ll keep looking and watching after semester grades come out. I’m sure there are some who aren’t doing as well in Calc 3 as they’d like and might have to take it again. But I was wondering … do profs do over-rides? Just in case …

They generally don’t have that type of control of the class. The dept is in-charge of stuff like that and generally their response will be no. Spots will show up. I always got classes I wanted. You just have to search and wait long enough.

Thanks for the info. Patient and persistant people we are. :)

why isn’t your daughter asking these questions? she’s the one attending school at florida.

wow.

She’s not a part of this forum; I am. She’s doing things on her own and figuring it out on her own. I, in turn, ask a lot of questions … my way, and sometimes I learn things from people who are articulate and reasonable and helpful. (And, then in turn, on the forums I’m on … I answer questions that I know for others who have questions) I don’t do her scheduling for her; she’s already done that. I just touch base with what I learn … and sometimes I know something she doesn’t.

Snarky, lately? Geesh!

Yes, check isis often. I was in the exact same situation and was able to switch to a better time period (and prof).
