Anyone had to deal with pre-employment background screening?

I got internship at JP Morgan Chase. I went through online on-onbard pre-employment background check process but I had to go again to fill background check forms on paper and do fingerprint. However it asks for 7 year history and it could only be completed by US Residents who lived in the US for at least 7 years. Its some regulation from US government. I lived less than 7 years so I could not complete. I let the agent know and she followed up with some supervisor and she let me know that someone will call me back to finish the process. Whats that 7 year US residency requirement? I hope I still I am eligible to get internship.

My son is doing an internship this summer with a District Attorney’s office in the Silicon Valley. He is a US citizen (as am I), but still had to go through a preliminary background check and fingerprint check prior to working there.

It makes sense being that he’ll possibly have access to information on ongoing investigations and who is working undercover, as well as access to criminal evidence to be presented later in court cases. I imagine that JP Morgan Chase is doing the same thing since they are buying and selling billions of dollars of stocks and bonds on a regular basis. They don’t want someone coming in and forging stock trade orders or placing orders without authorization. Doing an background investigation is this case is just being safe and is a good business practice.
