Anyone Have Any Questions About Chapman?

Does anyone know how small is Dodge? Chapman itself is already a bit bigger than I want in a college but I’m willing to put up with this due to my interest in the Film Studies major—which I also would like to learn more about.

according to the schools website there 1340 undergrad and grad students in dodge. the incoming freshmen class for this fall is 241 students. each major has a different number of students accepted into that major every year but i can’t find that information on their website at the moment. hope that helps!

How is Chapmans piano performance program?

I am more interested in a BA in music program, but emphasizing in my main instrument (piano, getting private classes). But i think Chapman doesnt offer private classes if you are a BA major.

does chapman have a gym that is public and open to students? does the gym have a basketball court where students are free to play in? or is it only for student athletes?

Hi, I have two questions for you!

One, I’m planning to apply for fall 2012. I have a 1730 SAT, (my GPA is messed up but i had an 89 average), strong writer, strong artist, and I come from a boarding school. I’m applying for the Graphic Design major- since it’s a talent based major will my chances of getting in increase with the portfolio?

My second question is during my tour the tourguide said that Chapman is very hands-on. Is this true? I read previously that there are alot of GE courses you have to take… I’m not too crazy about taking Spanish again.

Hi. I have a question about transferring. I would really love to join a sorority, but I’ve heard at some schools juniors pretty much aren’t even considered. Unfortunately I had to go to a CCC and I’m hoping to transfer here in the upcoming spring or fall… I was hoping someone had word on whether or not I have a chance of getting a bid based purely on being a junior and if it is possible to rush during spring?
Thanks :)

how is the english major at chapman?..planning on applying as an english major…lol

Not sure if the OP is checking his thread lately. As in the past, we have tried to help answer some of the questions as best as we can. So hope this helps. Good luck to everyone.

Louchopin,
Chapman has a highly well-regarded music program. It is best that you contact their music department directly for any questions you may have. Here are their links under College of Performing Arts.

laredja,
I believe using of the gym facility may vary depending upon sporting event.

lamottem,

 1. Yes. Your portfolio is one of the most important elements in the admission process. The portfolio is a collected sample which showcases your creativity and ability and you need to submit it to demonstrate your talent.
Yes. Chapman is very hands-on. Yes. You will also be taking a lot of GE courses so that you’ll be well-rounded when you graduate. You don’t have to be crazy about taking Spanish to survive the course. The best part is that they have a small class size, so you’ll have a more personalized instruction. DS took it last year and loved it.

xpaulinabearx,
DS took an English class last semester and said there was a lot of writing involved. That is a good thing because DS is into film, so that will definitely help. To learn more about the English department, go to their link under Wilkinson College.

Hi, I plan on taking 2 SAT Subject tests in December…the deadline for admissions is January 15. Is it okay for me to take the subject tests in December? Will the scores be sent on time? In other words, how long does it usually take for college board to send the scores to schools?

also, do i have a better chance of getting in if i’m undecided/undeclared?

It is not a requirement to take SAT Subject test, but it doesn’t hurt to send them if you have taken them and if you did really well on them. As for whether to apply undecided or not, it’s up to you. It’s always better to put down a preference as #1 choice major, and then a second choice major. You never know how impacted a specific major will be, and if you don’t declare it, you may not be able to get in later.

Hi, not sure who can answer this, but I’d like more information on Chapman’s English/Creative Writing program, such as average class sizes, what types of courses I’ll be taking, and how it compares to other colleges such as Occidental and Redlands, etc. Thanks so much!

In general, Chapman’s student-faculty ratio: 14 to 1; average class size: 23

Also, posting a separate thread for your questions may receive a quicker response.

i was looking under the admission requirements, and it says i need to get a Secondary School Report from my counselor…what exactly is that? lol… and also, is the business major at chapman competitive?

“i was looking under the admission requirements, and it says i need to get a Secondary School Report from my counselor…what exactly is that? lol… and also, is the business major at chapman competitive?”

A secondary school report means a high school transcript. Chapman has an excellent business program. From what I’ve heard, it’s quite competitive.

For the short answer, it say’s to “briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences.” Could I write about an internship? Or is it strictly only a job?

Writing about your internship is a great idea. They just want to learn more about your experiences.

okay, thank you so much for your help! i really appreciate it!

You’re welcome.

So… I was going to read through this whole thread to see if anyone had posted about the music department, but then I realized it was eighteen pages long.

Anyway, does anyone know anything about the music department at Chapman? I plan on majoring in classical voice, so any info would be greatly appreciated.
