I disagree about studying APUSH if you are dedicated and inclined to like history. I would go for it if I were you.

oh ok. I was thinking about studying it in December and also taking the SAT IIs for US history. Any thoughts on a good prep book?

I personally thought Kaplan for US History was good… but it’s no substitute for a good textbook. I recommend the AP version of American pagent. A chapter a week and you should be pretty much set. (This is what I did as a junior… I never listened to lectures, though my teacher was really great.)

No. Just no. I bought Kaplan before I found this forum and it is terrible. Get Direct Hits and Crash Course or AMSCO and Crash Course.

Here is what I did (“s” indicates selfstudy):

AP Calc BC 5 (s)
AP Statistics 5
AP Chemistry 5 (s)
AP Physics B 5 (s)
AP USH 4

I would recommend taking fewer, but more challenging APs.

Another factor to consider is whether you’ll get college credit. Unless you know where you’re going to attend and have checked out their policies, don’t assume that testing well on a bunch of APs will earn you credits when you get to college. For example, at Carleton we can only get credits for a max of 6 APs or college classes. Additional APs can provide advanced placement opportunities but not more credits.

Where the hell do you guys get the money for this? Mom and Dad?

I mean, daaaamn

^I plan on paying for these myself in 3 ways:
-a recent grant for our school lets us take some of these tests at 1/2 off
-writing contests
-and finally…magic!
I won’t be able to get a job until a few months after the AP registration deadline so I hope that those work…

thanks guys.
@sheepgetkilled- like which APs? The only “challenging AP” I know is Physics C, and my AP Bio teacher told me not to take the course.

Haha, 1asdfghkl, you go to Yale, but you can’t spell “jealous” or write out “your”? And you have these girls all over you but you spend time antagonizing high school kids on CC?
Lol. Pathetic trolls.

Parent perspective here. Once your GC checks the most rigorous box on your rec, it doesn’t matter. Your AP scores for your senior year won’t even come out until after you have already matriculated, so they won’t matter unless you are using them for placement or credit purposes. If that is the reason you are doing them, you might want to check the websites of prospective schools as to their placement and credit policies. My daughter graduated with 7 AP’s plus a full IB diploma, but her school doesn’t give credit for either.

Crafting good application essays would be a much better use of time your senior year than self studying 2 more AP’s

GA2012MOM - self-studying can often bring intrinsic pleasure, which in itself is a perfectly valid reason to do it as a senior. While I did gain important credit for the two exams that I self-studied as a senior, the feeling of success, accomplishment, and learning that I gained from it is irreplaceable.

Plus, I self-studied them after I submitted my applications, so the two activities did not get in the way of each other.

If you dont have any other ambitions(winning a sports championships, USABO etc) then it’s do-able.

@keasby nights-That is exactly how I feel!
@Ga2012mom- I have already finished my essays for my ED school :). If I get in, I wont have to worry about those since I have gotten a head start this summer.

I would suggest only taking exams if they’re classes you’re taking or if you can get credit for it in college, or if they are prerequisites.

Do you think these 7 exams are doable?
AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology (same day, self-study both)
AP Computer Science A (class)
AP Calculus AB (class w/ terrible teacher, but I will study extra)
AP Music Theory (self-study), AP Physics B (class) (these two are on the same day)
AP World History (self-study + regular world history)

Do you guys think I can do it? I’m worried about the ones that I have to take on the same day, do you think my brain will get tired?
