Anyone have suggestions for situation like me?

I went to an average private school my whole high school years. No one had ever told me what I need to do to go to a good college. I know this cannot be an excuse for me not working hard. But I was lazy so I got bad GPAs all 3 years, bad AP scores and an average SAT score(I mean like a 3.74 unweighted GPA+and a 1900 SAT) Now I knew a few people from ivy league and stanford, they strongly recommend me to start working hard to go to a good college.. I was thinking of taking a gap year and retake all the classes I had a B in and do a lot of ECs.. But my friend said it will just show on my transcript the second time I took it.. So it's like.. I'm technically going to high school for 5 years... Is it gonna real count against me when I apply for college if this is the case?
Do you guys have any suggestions that what should I do?
Do I still have a chance to go to MIT?

… -____________— Honestly, don’t take a gap year. You DON’T have to go to an Ivy League. You know that right? There are so many other colleges out there. Would you really be happy at MIT, where there are people who prepared to go to that school since like 6th grade? I mean, if you really want to go, then try for it. Don’t make up classes just because you got a B in them. I honestly think that’s a waste of time and what if you don’t get A’s? And how is a 3.7 uw GPA bad? If that’s bad, what is a 3.3? Sorry…

But anyway, just improve your SAT score, pick up some unique EC’s (don’t ask me what those are) and just go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens.

Thank you…
Ok in my school there’s only like 50 ppl in my junior class and my GPA is only ranked like 10… I mean… face this, every year only 1 or 2 ppl from my high school can atually get accepted by a top 30 college… My high school isn’t like… having super hard courses, I could get straight A’s if worked hard enough…

I honestly hate kids like you. “OMG i have a bad gpa I have a 3.7 blah blah blah omg”

Are you trying to get kids to praise you and tell you that you are smart?

You are pathetic.

Wow, your school is really small. Haha, uhm, do you know what you want to major in yet? If you’re planning to go to grad school, I think you should go to a less competitive school for your major, and then go to a big grad school. Be a big fish in a small pond. :-)

Also! I’m the same, if someone told me about college in freshman year, I wouldn’t have pulled a 3.5GPA. But I feel everything happens for a reason. You’ll find yours soon.

ksjko- dude… face this, I mean… GPA ranked #10 in a 50 ppl class in a average high school and wish to go to ivy schools?.. that’s probably the more pathetic thing…

And I know junior year in high school is a year of being arrogant… but I honestly think I have more potential than a lot of kids in my school…
