They say they mail them out in mid July.

I just checked my housing online and mine was updated. But maybe it was because I was one of the very first to register.

My daughter and her roommate got their room assignment today, too.

Yeah, I'm in Moore-Hill! Anyone else?

Thanks. I just had my daughter check hers. She's in Duren.

Yes, I sadly got assigned to Carrothers in the Honors Quad. I'm pretty surprised, because I heard that you had to put Honors as your first choice to get it, and I put it as my 3rd choice.

I applied at 6 am on the first day, putting Duren as #1 and San Jac as #2, and didn't get either. But I guess everyone applies that early, so it didn't really help.

Alternately, the people who run my scholarship didn't hear me when I said I didn't want to stay in the Honors Quad.

loneranger, I'm surprised you didn't get in. I hope this doesn't mean that I have to stay up late and apply right when it opens.

Did you have to submit your application before applying for housing? I'm sure I read that you didn't, but I just want to make sure.

the loneranger,

I applied for my son at 6am as well and son is also in Carothers. I think Carothers will be just fine! Sure Duren and San Jac are newer and have private baths, but I think socially for my son it will be better. I'm hoping that the students will be more serious about studying. Plus he doesn't have to clean a bathroom that he would be sharing with 1 or 3 other males. Yuck!

Good Luck to all on dorm/roommate assignments! I hope your roommate turns into a friend for life!

You have some serious misconceptions about San Jac and Duren. It is MUCH easier to study in San Jac or Duren, seeing as the RA's are a little more stringent on noise. And the study lounges on every floor are nice and quiet. And even if you have maids cleaning your bathroom everyday, community bath still sucks compared to private. Since they don't clean them on the weekends, they can get pretty rancid. Last year, my roommate and I had no problems keeping up with the bathroom, because it was our personal bathroom, we cared if we made a mess in there.

Foxshox,

I'm glad your experience in San Jac or Duren has been pleasant! My son is going to live with the dorm assignment he got, and he'll make the best of it! No dorm is perfect!

The dorms at UT are far better than what 18 years olds fighting in Iraq have to stay in. Every student at UT should be grateful for the opportunity they have just to be there.

My son, as well as all of the other students, who got a dorm assignment are privileged to even get a room and who can afford to go there.

Iraq....really? Hobos stay in safer conditions than the kids in Iraq...

Daughter got Duren. It was her first choice. She is in a residential FIG. Those in the residential FIGS get either Duren or Whitis, so I knew she would have one of those.
I'm a little sentimental about it. I had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Duren when I was a student mumblesomething years ago. Tip for those applying this year. Getting in a residential FIG gives you a leg up on getting into Duren, apparently. I also applied on Oct. 1 at about 8 a.m.

There will be no more October 1 date to apply for housing. Beginning with admissions applications for Fall 2009, which opens August 1, 2008, students must have a completed admissions application BEFORE they can apply for housing. Completed admissions application means that the essays must be submitted. For more information check out: Housing - Freshmen | Be a Longhorn | UT Austin

Thanks, UTHousing. I am advising several friends whose kids are applying this year, so I'll let them know about the change in the process.

Also, can you enlighten me about why the University doesn't accept Visa or American Express?

I just found out my room assignment a couple of days ago. I'm in Jester East...yuck! I am a summer freshman, so I'm staying in Duren right now. It is soooo nice, I really don't think I will like the transition that much. Oh well, if I really hate it I might just get an apartment off campus next year, but hopefully it won't be too bad. I didn't apply for housing until mid October, so I sort of had a hunch I was Jester bound. All of you staying in Duren, you're gonna love it. Although it is the farthest north part of the campus, not sure it will be too terribly convenient.

BH8,
Have you notice if there are ironing boards and irons in Duren? Maybe in the laundry room?

I got Duren! It was my first choice initially and then I changed it to my second about 2 days before the house choice deadline. But I'm completely happy with Duren. My only issue was that it's pretty far away from the gym and my classes. Otherwise, I'm really grateful that I got it!

Oh, and I too applied at 6AM on October 1st, but the site was experiencing so much traffic that it didn't officially receive my housing deposit until about 6:45.

Texasmama,
Several years ago the legislature passed a change in the Texas Education Code that would allow UT to charge a convenience fee for the use of the credit card. Visa would not allow the convenience fee to vary based on the transaction amount. For example, if a student were paying for one class vs 5 classes the convenience fee would be the same amount. This would not be allowed by the change in the education code.

I still haven't gotten anything in the mail, so I was wondering what I click after I log into UT direct to see my housing assignment and whatnot. Whenever I click to see my housing status, all it says is that I have a contract and a space and that they're mailing out packets in mid-july, but it's way past that, and I still don't have anything, and am starting to get worried.
