anyone hearing about merit scholarships yet?

well that about puts the nail in USC's coffin...Congrats GetOutta and good luck at UNC/Duke!!

haha o no cathymee, thats a terrible way to put it. lol honestly, i would have gone for usc in a second had i not gotten these scholarships to unc... im still not 100% sure yet, but we'll see.

hey IdRatherBeSATing, did you get any news yet from sorensen?? :-)

Can my son wear a wig and take your spot? hahahahaha

namtrag, was your son a finalist? i probably met him :-)

By the way, congrats on all your hard work paying off for you! It's awesome that you have a choice to make, and neither one will be wrong!

No, he really was hoping, but got a Cooper instead, so it's all good!

He is also a "semi-finalist" for a Stokes Scholarship from the National Security Agency. I am not sure whether he will get it or not, the letter said he had to pass background checks, polygraphs, be eligible for top secret clearance, etc.

If he does get it, the NSA will pay for his tuition, give him a summer internship, etc. He will have to work for them for 1.5 years for every year of college they pay for. He wants to work there anyway, so getting college paid for would be icing on the cake! He is interested in cryptology or languages.

Good luck to you in making your decision. Make it and don't second guess yourself.

To Getouttabuffalo: Congratulations! As a wild, uneducated, none of my business guess, I think that you will end up at Duke if you are only considering the three schools. South Carolina may be too much of a culture shock, North Carolina may still have a substantial unbalance male-female ratio, and Duke just has too much prestige, diversity and across the board quality to pass up. Also, due to bad publicity regarding the lacrosse case, Duke's applications dropped and I bet that they will go to great lengths to attract a student of your caliber. That being written, South Carolina has probably the best international business major in the country. But you will meet a different caliber of people at Duke. I am not writing that that is good or bad, just that much will depend on you, your personality and where you feel most comfortable. Nothing like "stating" the obvious. Did you consider the Univ. of Georgia's Foundation Fellows Program?

GetOutta
Girl,I was being completely serious! I read up on the Robertson and I don't know how you could pass up that opportunity. The program is a dream come true,no matter what your intended major.
The facts on their website say 150 were semi finalists and interviewed,100 get to come to the Weekend and 36 will be picked.
Best of luck to you and really, make the most of the wonderful opportunity you have been handed.

Cathymee: Could you tell us some details about the Robertson Scholarship at UNC as I know a student who got it two years ago and is at UNC. How long has it been around?

don't know how long its been around, all I did was Google it...Robertson Scholarship University of North Carolina. That'll take yiou to their website and you can read up on it there.

GetOuttaBuffalo,

Yeah, he called me on my cell phone when I was at a museum on Saturday. That's right, we're good buddies.

Ryan, SOOO Happy for you!!! do you think you'll take it???

Garrity, I didn't apply to Duke (grrrr I was going to...but I figured I'd pick UNC over Duke anyway). The Robertson, however, if I get it, will allow me to a be a student at both. It's been around for about 6 years I believe, and every Scholar gets full tuition, room, board, a living stipend, laptop, and 3 summers of travel. AMAZINNNGGG

My odds are 18/50 right now (roughly) to be a Robertson at UNC...
I'm not holding my breath on it, but its a great opportunity just to be considered. I will be all "game on" during the weekend, but I just wont have my hopes up, since it's suchhhh stiff competition.

You can also go to the UNC posts and look for jack. Her D is a current Robertson and may be able to shed more light on the program/experience.

Wow, I feel slow. I JUST figured out who IdratherbeSATing is. Blech. I'm sorry Ryan. Congratulations though!

I know 2 current Duke robertson scholars.....That is an amazing program and scholarship!!!! The benefits at UNC are slightly better than the ones at Duke(no room and board included at Duke--though the $ value is >). I also know of a UNC robertson that turned it down to take a BN scholarship at Duke. I think the Robertson is one of the best scholarships around. GOB if you get it ---take it and don't look back!!! It's amazing!!!!! And the kids in the program are amazing too!! Though USC has better football:)

IFFFFFF i get it :-</p>

SC Member

Yeah but what if you like basketball better? LOL

Yeah but what if you like baseball better?

Track?

Cross Country?

Women's equestrian?

Hopefully the basketball will get better too!

My S got a call from the head of the Computer Science dept last night. He talked with S for about a half hour. It sounds like S has a good chance to receive a $3000 scholarship from the dept!

Congratulations namtrag. Sounds like USC is working out great for you!
