Anyone here got accepted AND got a full/near full FA???? If so, what school?

Just wondering about if anyone on this forum got accepted into top boarding schools and received FA :)

St.Pauls, all the actual tuition. Just have to pay for all the extra fees and books and stuff.

mpicz : SPS ^ haha, above - > full

Saer: Choate -> full (accepted to Exeter with full, as well)

TomTheCat: Andover legacy

and others, who i can’t think of at the moment. someone got accepted to Chatham Hall with full financial aid, too.

Almost full to Exeter. Along with books and a laptop. :)

I was accepted full to Choate, Exeter, and NMH. Full tuition + expenses at Choate, as well. Choate has an amazing financial aid program, just because it’s not Exeter or Andover, doesn’t mean you should cross it off your list.

Are you guys US citizens or international students, because I heard that it’s a lot harder to get FA as a international student.

It is harder as an international. I am a US citizen.

I’m an international student.

I got full FA for SPS

I was accpeted at Episcopal and they cut half on the tuition but the boarding was not cut. They also cut half off on the computer

full tuition+books+a laptop+laundry expenses+plane tickets for exeter

For those of us scrimping to pay full tuition, when you get on campus could you just keep quiet about all the freebies. Its just painful to know that I pay top dollar for what you get for free.

toadstool, I believe that most if not all of those that get the full free ride are people who are really in need. They probably do meet the guidelines (e.g. family income < 75,000) for full financial aid, that is openly published on the school websites. You are one of the few lucky ones in the nation or in the world for that matter who can afford to pay the full tab. Why feel bitter, unless you think the poorer people are not working as hard? FYI, the FA is NOT from the tuition you pay. That’s why the school has an endowment. And not meant to be harsh, if you are not comfortable paying or feel the tuition is a big burden, why didn’t you try to apply for some FA in the first place?

toadstool, i know one kid who is on full f/a and is so embarrassed and never ever wants to mention it or have anyone know, so there is the other side too.

I think the people who are on full rides are probably in dire financial straits; I am certain most parents would prefer to pay if they possibly could (I know we would).

The tuition at Choate is almost $2,000 more than my mother’s yearly salary… With other expenses, it’d be an upwards of $5,000 more than what she makes in an entire year. My father pays child support a little erratically. I’m not super proud that I’m on FA, except maybe for the fact that it was maybe a little more difficult to get it? I don’t know.

You SHOULD be proud of yourself for making your way to a top school, and yes it IS more difficult given the current economy. Parents in this situation on the other hand may understandably not be so proud of themselves. They shouldn’t feel ashamed either of course but there is just no reason to be proud of themselves other than for their kids.

I’m pretty proud to have gotten almost full FA. I believe the whole under 75,000 thing…but fact of the matter is they won’t pay your whole tuition unless they really want you in the economy (especially with all the people asking for aid).

My parents wouldn’t, it would put to much of a strain on the family. Plus they’re not looking forward to most likely having to pay for my brothers graduate school. They were expecting to have to pay about 50% of the tuition (would equate to how much they’re paying now)…so we got reeeaally lucky.

mpicz, your case just shows that some of the best schools would go extra miles in meeting more than 100% of your “demonstrated” needs, or the school had its own way (a generous way apparently) to determine your needs. You are right in that they don’t do that just for ANYONE, and for that you should be proud. However, you case is still not one of those FULL scholarships where the school covers everything including travel, laundry, laptop, and all other “fringe benifits”. I believe those people should meet or close to a certain threshold (For Exeter it’s $75000, for other schools it may be higher or lower).

Toadstool, my parents are considering selling our crappy little car so they can buy me a plane ticket to visit home for Christmas. I just hope it doesn’t come to that, because if it does I’ll feel terribly guilty that my parents and brother will need to rely on carpools to get to work and school. So show some respect and acknowledge the fact that the people who are on near full to full FA really do need it. Sheesh.
