Anyone here live in the North Hill?

Trying to get some info about the various dorms there. The ones that are available do not have a/c; does location make up for that?

Both D’s live in the Language House in St. Mary’s, and in addition to the program, the location is awesome. If your S(?) lived in a non a/c dorm his first year, he’ll probably be fine without a/c there…trusty fans are a must, however.

Actually, S lived in an a/c dorm this year but is choosing location over a/c for next year. I think he’s crazy, personally. But he is in the business school and wants to live closer to his classes.

There’s only a few weeks in the beginning (and sometimes the very end) that are a problem, and are overshadowed by not having to traipse through cold winds and snow to get to class, and not having to carry everything for the day because it’s too much of a hassle to go back to the dorm that is farther away… Also, the proximity to Stamp (for fast food options) and McKeldin (for quieter study options) are big plusses. He’ll have a/c lounges that he can always retreat to if it gets THAT bad, or go hang out with friends who do have a/c. St. Mary’s a/c (and heat) has been…um… temperamental. My 2 were glad they kept fans anyway!

I currently live in Caroline on the floor of girl’s singles. There’s no air conditioning, but my room is currently about 70 degrees (and I’m on the top floor). The high rises are way worse with heat. If you’re a science major, the location isn’t as good, but you’re close to everything but your classes. If you’re a major that’s mostly on the mall or in the business school, the location is ideal. Also route one is really close which is nice.
It’s way quieter at night than North Campus, and all around it’s much nicer on South Campus. It’s much more nicely lit as well.

Thanks for the input. Gina…just curious…does Caroline have a/c in the lounges? It appeared that only Carrol seemed to have a lounge with a/c! But that’s just from the reslife site.

S will bring an air mattress next year in case he has to camp out in the living room of his friends who are living in the Commons!

Honestly I spend no time in the lounge (There’s only one, plus a smaller “Study” one I’ve never set foot in) but I’m fairly sure its air conditioned.

…What’s wrong with the couch?
