Hi! I'm a newly admitted transfer. Though as a transfer I know I may not have too many options. But if given the opportunity, I am wondering what are some good options for on campus dorming. I'm looking in terms of space, social scene (I'm not a partier...nerd-status), and would prefer North Campus or North Hill. Any advice or ideas? I'm a little nervous since dorming is new to me as I attended CC this year. Thanks in advance! (:

I was in your shoes about a year ago except I transferred in as a Junior. If you wanna live on North Campus, pretty much everyone and their brother/sister/cousin wants to live/tries to live in Oakland. If you preference it when you sign up for housing, and get REALLY lucky like I did, you’ll get in. Other than that most of them are predominantly freshman halls. If you wanna stay on North campus try for one with AC such as LaPlata (which has a great location) or Elkton. Idk much about the North Hill resident halls other than that most of them are specific learning communities. South Campus is where most of the upperclassmen live. I’ll be a senior next year and I’m staying in Oakland, because there is honestly nothing better on campus other than possibly an apartment.

Jenyjoe…I KNOW how nice Oakland is! I was able to go inside and see how nice a set-up is. If I was lucky I’d like to end up there or La Plata! But, I know you’re exactly right “everyone and their brother” wants to live in Oakland. Do you know how much ResLife tries to honor your requests? Thanks for the info!

I was a transfer who asked for Oakland and they honored my request. Transfers have a better shot getting into Oakland than freshman from what I’ve heard. You can list 3-4 preferences via email when you sign up for housing. Here is what I suggest. 1. Oakland, 2. LaPlata, 3. Elkton (it is getting AC over the summer) and 4. Queen Anne’s (north hill).

Hello, so when exactly did you email about your preferences. I filled out the housing and dining request form at the beginning of this month. Should I have done it then?

@cryan19 YOU AND ME BOTH. Oakland or LaPlata (well I’d take any dorm in the Ellicott Community). I really need to email them because the deadline for housing for Freshmen is May 1. Don’t want to let any grass grow, yah know? I don’t want to live in a jail cell ;)

Lol exactly forza. I’d love to have a single too even though its highly unlikely lo but yeah I need to act soon. Like monday lol

Another thing I wish I could have but…I guess that is something I’ll have to deal with. I love having my own room! ;)

Lol i like having my own room too ;)

Who did you guys email for your preferences on campus? And what did you guys say to them?

This is an excellent thread! I’m not acquainted with the best/cleanest dorms or the ones with the most amenities; does anyone which ones are the best and the closest to campus (don’t want to walk a lot).

Still need to email ResLife about preferences.

I emailed reslife yesterday about my preferences. I told them oakland or something apartment/suite style. I don’t know anything about each dorm specifically.

Useful links for you guys…it should answer almost all of your questions:

My child has been at Elkton and Oakland. Oakland is a great building. It is the newest one
