If so, please share your thoughts on why you picked Wes over the usual film schools.
No doubt, Wes has a stellar reputation, esp for film, and the solid liberal arts foundation makes a better filmmaker.
I just wonder if those who choose Wes miss doing any production as first year film students. Are there Filmmaking clubs? (I didn’t see any online)
S19 honestly has his eyes set on the usual schools, but if he considered a LAC for film it would be Wes. When he started looking into the program, he was amazed by the strong alumni and faculty.
My kid is not applying to either of those.
In the end it came down to prospective cost for NYU. The net price calculators just couldn’t bring it in to our affordable range.
USC was on the list for a very long time, but it dropped off because of the sports culture at the school and the distance. Kiddo decided he wanted to go for a LAC feel.
When we toured last summer, we had an amazing guide who is involved in the film and theatre programs. She was a rising junior. She told us that in her two years at Wes so far she had been involved in a total of 20 film projects and had turned down several because she was too busy.
I don’t know why there aren’t filmmaking clubs, but I suspect, based on our interactions with A, that may be because filmmaking is so integrated into campus society that a club would be redundant.
Thanks @ninakatarina
This is helpful. Nice to see another parent from the 2019 thread
In case others are researching student filmmaking groups, a Wes IG post mentions two:
Cardinal Pictures (student filmmaking group) and Screenwriter’s Lounge.
[Cardinal Pictures site](http://www.cardinal-pictures.com)
[Wes Blog post about Screenwriters Lounge](Screenwriters Lounge Supports Student Filmmaking on Campus)
now thats funny. thank you.
