I know this probably doesn't apply to the majority here, but I hear that in some countries, students graduate from high school atthe age of 19, having done 5 years og high school.
In my case, people have to go to the army for two years (women 2, men 3), which means starting college at almost 20!
How would you feel about it?
I mean, where I live (Israel) everyone goes to college in a different age, since some stay in the army for longer and some take off a year or two. But in America most freshmen will be 18, straight outta high school, and in some school freshmen are usually isolated and are put together and I'm afraid no one will be my age in the dorms and all that...
Any thoughts? Anyone else here have the same situation?

share similar worries. by the time i reach college ill be 20. (haha, IF I DO REACH COLLEGE)

oh well, guess there's nothing you can really do.

Nope, can't turn back time or anything, just try real hard not to pay attention I guess. Where are you from and why will you be starting college at 20?

And c'mon! I wanna hear some more positive thoughts, why do u think you wouldn't reach college?

im from nepal. reaching coll at 20 coz first we gotta do the nepal board which is grade 8, 9 and 10. and then did my o levels, and then a levels .im 19 and almost done. but then by fall next year ill be 20.

well, high hopes to reach coll, haha, lets see.

anyway, so where are you applying? what major?

Your stats are very impressive, I'm sure you know it. Exellent SAT's score, which I'd say automatically qualifies you from most of these schools.
When you wrote merit, you mean you know for sure you are a candidate, or just assume?
I know for a fact that GWU are very generous. I know someone fron Lebanon who had 1480 on her SAT's, and was the valedectorian of her class and was offered full tuition without even applying for it.
WUSTL is higly competitive but your stats match their requirements, and you're int'l, so I don't see why you're not in.
The rest are also a pretty safe bett, not sure how safe their aid might be but they are all private and love foreign students so go for it! Maybe I'll see you at Leihgh :)

--I would start school at 19..
--A school year: Feb - Nov
--Years 9-13 (british system)
--My birthday is September 5.
--Now: I'm 17 years old, in year 12.
--In year 13, I'd be 18 years old (after sep)
--I'd be applying in Nov/Dec, year 13, and when accepted, I'd be starting a school in the u.s, after that year.

So if school starts before September 5th, I'd be 18.
If school starts after Setember 5th, I'd be 19.
And I would have to spend my birthday with strangers. yay.

My birthday's April 1987, and I'm starting college at age 19.

haha, hey wouldnt mind going to Lehigh would you, i like that univ; jus that they dont encourage foreign applicants with ED.

the places where ive written merit based aid, i'll be applying for their meit aid. btw, you seem to be applying to a lotta places like Syracuse, BC, BU, Northeastern. I assumed you'll be applying for merit aid coz havent heard these colleges giing out need based aid? What are your stats.

And any help with sorting out my reach, match and safteries. Plus decideing among the colleges under "Undecided"

Thanks

I'm 19 now, born 1986. if I had stayed in Vietnam i WOULD have graduated high school n gone to uni by 18, but i moved to m'sia, started a levels, movd to romania switched to i.b. diploma. it sucks being 19 when most seniors at ur schoool are 17... i'll be 20 by june 2006 so i guess i'll be older than most frshmen.

but some americans do a gap year or do a post-grad high svchool yrear. the common app itself has a post-grad column for EC's. cool.

himaladreams - heard of st. loius. get emails from them. they're a (heabvily, i think) jesuit school so if that rocks your boat... unsire abt aid.
berea- it's practically free, but that's because you have to work n suppport yourself, and more hours a week ythan the work study at other universities. really have tp juggle accademics n work (time). truly unique school. its application is somewhat diff from other schools, i think
faifield - nvr heard of, sorry
gwu - i heard it's good, somewhat tough to get in, great if you enjoy a politically charged environment. no idea abt aid

Gettysburg College no idea, sorry
Wash U in St. Louis match/reach
Franklin & Marshall reach-ish?
Lehigh Univ match
Wake Forest match/reach
Univ of Notre Dame match/reach
Lafayette ??
HOPE - ??
Wash & Lee reach-ish?

take it w/ a grain of salt. i'm bad at second-guessing

sorry for bad spelling. post-op

thanks!

and mind explaining what exactly is a jesuit school? never saw a religious dominance in their viewbooks. and they've sent me alotta them at that. they advertise like crazy
