My daughter is so excited to receive the Honors package, Miami is her first choice. However, her dad just lost his job today… and the OOS cost already was hitting our limits. she hopes there is a chance for additional scholarships with the invite. Time will tell. She so does not want to go to Florida schools.

^ I hope you filed a FAFSA. Call the FA office and tell them of a change in your financial situation. It can’t hurt.

Good luck. We just visited our 2nd year D in Honors last weekend–We love the place. D loves Miami and the opportunities of the Honors Program.

^ I do not believe that current changes in financial situation will affect status as far as FAFSA concerned. It will affect the following year. However, apply to need based FA anyway. And keep in mind that Miami has tons of Merit scholarships for Returning students - so the years after Freshman year might be much cheaper. BUT ONE NEEDS TO APPLY TO THEM BEFORE MARCH 15 and have high college GPA. D. got additional $6500 for sophomore year. Unfortunately we missed deadline last year. Most kids do not apply - huge mistake, still better for those who do. FASFA is also absolute must no matter what income is. They determine their Merit Scholsrships still using FASFA. Good luck to everybody who decides to attend! Great place.
