Anyone into UW Honors yet?

Haven’t heard from Honors. Losing hope…

Anyone else hear anything??

My s heard yesterday (accepted) but no offer of merit scholarship. Probably not among his top choices, but at least it made it a nice safety option.

Congrats waitinginca. I don’t think merit scholarship decisions have been made. I hope not.

@gimmel I called honors admissions last Thursday and the lady who answered my call said that there were roughly 500 more applications to process. So, it is going to take several more days to go through them. Last year they sent invites to 700+ (out of 2700+) and I think about 225 of them ended up joining.

Thanks for responding Maxxwell. The info. here and support I feel from everyone here is comforting. It sure is a crazy time… all this waiting, worrying, and the important decisions to make…

Oh, I’ve tried to email honors but it keeps bouncing back. I want to call, but I know they are busy. Were they friendly on the phone?

My worry is that I received an email from honors on 1/8 confirming that they received the letter of recommendation and that my honors app is now complete…they will not review until I have been accepted into UW.

However, I was accepted to UW on 12/22.

@gimmel I have called them twice in the past month. People who answer calls are generally current honors students working in the office. They were very friendly and told me to be patient and that they understood how we feel having gone through this process not too long ago.

^^^^I think I love you. Thanks again!!

@Maxxwell, you said 500 more applications, so do you know how many they’ve gone through already?

Also @gimmel, I’ve received an informal ‘welcome’ email from the Honors office from one of the advisors. They sound super super nice! So, if you call in and not talk to a student, I’m sure the person on the other line won’t be a meanie. ;)

^^^ I have no idea. My understanding is that the honors dept gets an application only after the candidate gets regular admission. I am sure they must have received many more applications since my last conversation.

I know they get applications right away, because I checked with them around Dec 5 to make sure they got all my materials. I know they don’t actually LOOK at the applications until people get accepted, though.

when do they decide about merit scholarships?

Also, has anyone heard about NOT getting into the honors program? I am still waiting for a response, getting kind of worried.

I don’t know about merit scholarships, but I’d think maybe in March, after they’ve gone through almost all of the applications.

I haven’t heard of anyone getting anything from honors after the first small batch about two weeks ago.

My friend got in yesterday. He has a 4.0 UW GPA and is a IB Diploma candidate with a SAT score of 2330.

Crazy, I know.

Applied: Nov 29
UW Admission: January 6th
Honors Admission: January 20th

I got my welcome packet & honors acceptance letter on the same day.

Also, in terms of scholarships, we contacted the office and they said scholarship notifications will go out AFTER initial honors letters go out.

@Hirrary, Congrats! And since a whole group of us got our honors letters already, does that mean we are the ‘initial honors letters’? Or is that when the actual Honors Welcome Packet comes (in the Spring)? Also, not sure if you would know, but any idea how many of the 225-250 Honors Freshmen who end up going to UW actually get scholarships?

Visited UW campus today and sat in a freshman class. Size of this honors class was about 60 vs. 170 for regular. Checked out the regular class as well. It wasn’t as bad as I had imagined.

I got the impression that they will start sending out scholarship letters soon.

Has anyone hear anything about the scholarship for honors students ? I think they are sending it out right about this time.

Does anyone know if they’ll be sending out more acceptances into honors?

hougang: Haven’t gotten anything, but yeah they should be sending out letters end of the week or so… from what I’ve heard.

gimmel: A friend of mine got in two days ago. She was very excited, but she’s waiting to hear back from Stanford. As people reject the invitation to honors, I’m sure they’ll send out more letters. This year is probably more competitive because of the downturn of the economy, though. More people may want to stay in state instead of heading to California for UC Berkeley, for example. A few years ago, my friend got into Honors late, late March.

Most of the honors kids I know didn’t hear until March, so I would assume they are still sending them out.
