Anyone know how to get a grade changed to S/NC after the fact?

Hey everyone, I'd appreciate any help on this.

This summer was my first time taking a summer course at Pitt, which was tough because I'm working my behind off on my BPhil thesis project. I knew that I wasn't going to be able to give 100% to the course I was taking (but I needed it to graduate on time) so I asked the grad student Prof. if he could grade me on pass/fail (S/NC). He said that it wouldn't be a problem. About a week later, He sent me an email telling me that he was unable to change my grade to pass/fail. I emailed my advisor, who took around a week to get back to me (I understand though, advisors are crazy busy before the fall semester) and he informed me that in the summer courses, you have to declare pass/fail within the first 2 weeks of the 6 week semester. By the time I got this email, it was two and half weeks into the 6 week semester, so I just missed the deadline. I ended up getting a C. I know, its not the end of the world, but it's my first, and it knocked my GPA down an decent bit, which isn't good, as I'm trying to stay competitive for grad school admissions.

Anyone have any advice on anything I can do to get the grade changed to S/NC?

What you should have done at the beginning is to look up the deadlines for S/NC and withdrawal and then shown up at the office of the registrar in Thackeray Hall by that deadline to get it changed. You don’t need to go through your professor or advisor to do this. It wasn’t the professor’s responsibility to know when the deadline for S/NC is and while the advisor delayed in responding you should have been aware of the deadline and taken action before it if he didn’t reply by then.

You probably can’t do anything about it now since if everyone could change their grades to S/NC after they’ve finished the course there wouldn’t be a point to grades. Consider it a lesson learned that deadlines have to be tracked by yourself and not anyone else.
