The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
anything Vonnegut
House of Leaves by ???

any robin cook book is excellent

Rising Sun by Michael Crichton is not doctor related but is a great, light-novel read. Mystery elements plus action equals literary goodness.

my sister is reading some of vonneguts for english.

ne way i really like disclosure by michael cricthon. its a business thriller type, pretty interesting.

i'm able to appreciate JD salinger's "catcher in the rye" more after reading it, because i find that holden's observations about society are sad but true.

right now, i'm reading The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald. if you're anti-status quo like me, you'd have great respect for the book. it's good to read something that makes you angry.

rebelbychoice, those are two of my all-time favorite books. :)

how about any historical fiction thats like the scarlet letter or the crucible? i love puritan stuff...salem witch trial stuff

Catcher in the Rye............J D Salinger......not everybody's cup of tea though

If you like science fiction, then you must read The Light of Other Days by Arthur C. Clarke and Stephen Baxter.

Another good (but sometimes sort of gruesome) one is A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. The story and the style are phenomenal.

And, if you're up for an intellectual (and more challenging) read, definitely check out Paradise Lost by Milton. I love that book.

PS - I just finished Da Vinci Code and I must say that it was a great book. I read it instead of studying for AP exams it was that good. I would definitely recommend it.

Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole is a fantastic book. It won him a pulitzer prize. Its hilarious in a kind of depressing and intellectual way. Probably the funniest book I've ever read, excluding Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas, which is another amazing book.

FLLV is awesome, nice choice. Anything by Hunter S. Thompson is great in general.

On a side note, were you at Coventry?

Catch-22

One of the best books I've ever read.

Anti-Oedipus by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari

What is Philosophy? by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari

Genealogy of Morals by Friedrich Nietzsche

Discpine and Punish: The Birth of the Prison by Michel Foucault

History of Sexuality Parts I, II, III by Michel Foucault

Lacan and the Political by Slavoj Zizek

If you like Doctor stuff, look no further than Robin Cook. Michael Crichton has some good stuff as well.

As for really great books, I like Steinbeck (especially Mice and Men and East of Eden) and Hemingway. Hemingway is a man's man.

Brave New World..

My name is Asher Lev - Potok
Struggle b/t genious and tradition stirs up some powerful emotions

--Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
